YASA Queens edge Luyanda Foundation in five goal thriller
FT : LUYANDO FOUNDATION 2 – 3 YASA QUEENS
This is a game that pitted two of the youngest teams in terms of age in the Football Association Of Zambia, Lusaka Region Womens League week 8 encounter played at Kanyama Football Ground.
Luyando have been playing entertaining and beautiful football despite this being their first ever season in the league while Yasa are seasoned campaigners who have always been impressive against the big guns in the league but coming up against a young Luyando side it was always not going to be an easy affair.
This game was preceeded by a minute of silence in honor of Yasa Striker Patricia Lampi who lost her mother earlier this week.
Back To Action :
From the first whistle it looked set to be an entertaining game and boy or boy did it live upto expectations. In the First few minutes into the match both teams were strong on the ball but with no clear cut chances. Luyando enjoyed some good possession with their skipper Matilda, Precious and Elessy commanding play in the midfield but coming up against an experienced Yasa Midfield comprising of Rosemary, Tamara and Susan was not going to be that easy for the Coach Mwape Tutored Side.
Rhoda, A Yasa defender was a bit slow and she could easily lose the ball but good defensive work from her coleagues made sure there was no shot on target thus far, with Mataba playing well on the left wing.
Luyando won the first corner through their skipper Evelyn Susan Katongo who was exceptional on the ball and a team player until she was sustained knovks twice on her ankle and had to be stretched off in the latter stages of the second half.
Elessy the Luyando enterprising winger at just 14 years was a threat in the Yasa defence throughout the game and created some chances for Matilda Mutuka who unfortunately failed to utilize them. Moments later, Florence almost put Yasa in the lead but she failed to beat Luyando Goalkeeper in a one on one situation and there was a counter attack but in the end Elessy failed to score ballooning her shot over the bar.
At this point both goalkeepers were now put to test with the Luyando goal minder –being the busier of the two. Six minutes to half time Florence made up for her earlier miss and this time around she was put through in open space by Melisa and calmly putting the ball in the back of the net to make it 1 – 0 to Yasa but in the process collided with the goal keeper.
Elessy had an opportunity to score with a long range free kick which took an awkward bounce in front of Yasa Golkeeper but it went over the bar. Minutes later Melisa had a shot at goal but her effort was weak. Florence had another clear chance to make it 2 but her shot hit the upright after a slight touch by the goalkeeper and her quick reaction helped to cover and her defence cleared the line but straight into an on rushing Yasa player who’s shot hit a Luyando defender for a corner. Florence’s 39th minute goal was the difference between the two teams going into the break.
After the break, Both teams came in more stronger and were more aggressive on the ball, Rhoda, the right back for YASA was very good with man marking so was her defensive line marshaled by Harriet, who defended a late challenge on Elessy who had only the keeper to beat.
Rosemary and company had a great game in midfield but had to withstand the quick feet of Luyando skipper Evelyn who in the end had to be subsitituted after a crude tuckle by Rosemary and her absence changed Luyando’s game plan and they looked to struggle a bit from then on.
Luyando’s goalkeeper was still the busier of the two in the second stanza but her steadiness really helped her to put up some great saves from Annie, Christine and Florence who was a threat in the Luyando half as she showed why she was YASA’S 2018 top goal scorer as she completed her brace with a long range goal outside the 18 yard box beating the goalkeeper at her near post to make it 2 – 0 for YASA.
Florence almost had her 3rd goal with a powerful short only for the goal keeper to parry it away for a corner. YASA goalkeeper who thought she was on holiday was called to duty and her late reaction to come out of her line costed the team with a through ball after miscommunication with her defenders and a clever move by Matilda to flick the ball with a head past her put the ball behind the net after great team build up from defence to midfield and eventually attack from Luyando.
Christine Nyirongo made it 3 – 1 with a great goal outside the box which left Luyando goalkeeper rooted to the ground. Elessy continued to be a throne in the YASA defence but was well marked by Susan and company. On a counter attack YASA hit the upright through substitute Annie, The ball fell into Christine’s path but her rebound went wide.
Luyando rested Lydia and Matilda but still there was no difference. Towards the dying minutes of the game, Elessy was cripped inside the box and the referee awarded a penalty to Luyando and Elessy stepped up and scored from the spot to make it 3-2 .
