We will fight for maximum points against Ivory Coast- Patson Daka

Zambia U23 national team striker Patson Daka says the team has now shifted their focus to the last game of the group stage at the ongoing U23 AFCON tournament in Egypt in which they are targeting getting maximum points.

Zambia was handed a 3-1 defeat by defending Champions, Nigeria to complicate their quest to reach the semifinals.

“We just have to concentrate on the last game and of course we are going for three points regardless of what will happen, we will fight on and go for maximum points because at the end of the day we do not know what will happen,” Daka said.

The 2017 CAF Young player of the year said he was disappointed with the loss to Nigeria given the fact that the team tried their best. Daka believes the team needs to learn from the loss and forge ahead.

“I am very disappointed with the result, we did our best in order to get the three points, unfortunately, it did not go our way,” he said.

“Everyone knew how important this game was and how the three points would have changed the situation but nevertheless we have to learn from what we have not done very well in this game. We have to move on to the next game.”

Patson Daka put Zambia in the lead in the 12th minute before they capitulated and went on to lose 3-1. Daka put in a fantastic shift which earned the man of the match accolade despite suffering an early head injury after colliding with teammate Fashion Sakala.

Zambia will face Ivory Coast on Friday in their final Group B match at the Cairo International Stadium. Zambia needs to beat Ivory Coast to stand a chance of progressing to the next round and keeping their Olympic dream alive.

  1. Yes we have a chance and we should go for that

    Why and how read below:

We still have a chance especially that Ivory Coast are under pressure to win and they qualify. It is a tricky group going into the last games. How??? read below

    South Africa:

South Africa has 4 points, Nigeria 3, Ivory Coast 3 and Zambia 1, fine
For South Africa to progress they should either beat or draw Vs Nigeria. A loss to Nigeria will leave them on 4 points

Nigeria will have to win their game in order to progress. A draw will leave them at 4 points while a win will leave them at 6 points

    Ivory Coast:

Ivory Coast will need to beat Zambia to get to 6 points. A draw will leave them at 4 points and Zambia at 2 points

For Zambia there is only one solution beat Ivory Coast by as many goals as possible and get on 4 points and then see what happens in the other game.

    The best scenario for Zambia is as follows;

South Africa beats Nigeria by any margin and move top with 7 points while Nigeria remains at 3. Zambia beats Ivory Coast by any margin and moves second with 4 points while both Nigeria and Ivory Coast end up with only 3 points. It is the only chance that we have and I think we should go for this. Hope SA beats Nigeria and we beat Ivory Coast then we will be through. Nothing is impossible

  2. You did well Patson. You had no support but you managed very well. I am not surprised you are man of the match

Nigeria is a tough customer for Zambia at any level. But from the way the Nigerians played you could tell that they really studied the young Chipolopolo’s system. The Nigerian boys were physically up to task to contain the speed of our young guns. They also managed to contain Mwepu and Fashion which short supplied Daka up front. What Zambia needed to do is calm down and play tiki taka. The long balls played to Nigeria’s advantage since those boys were tall at the back. This Zambian team is very good and was only let down by not having that camp in Spain to polish the tiki taka. Blame this loss on poor preparations. At this level, you blink you lose.

Tonite Algeria … then Cote d”Ivoire the games are coming thick and fast. I must say this Afcon and Olympics qualifiers both at the same time could have been organized better by CAF.
Anyway everyone is under the cosh.
I’m sure under 20’s will be much betteragaisnt Cote d’Ivoire.
The Algeria match will be a real test of AC tactical acumen. All this under 20 disappointment has shifted focus and will allow him to get on with his game plan. I’m hoping Algeria will be overconfident and we can snatch a point at least.
Good luck gentlemen, we are with you!!!
