We ready to give everything – Mwepu
Zambia Under-23 National Team Midfielder Enock Mwepu said that they are ready for Group B to do or die encounter against Cote D’lvoire at the on-going Total Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt as they fight to overturn the tables and are yet to pick up maximum points having drawn their first match nil-nil with South Africa before going down 3-1 to Nigeria before
Speaking in a postmatch interview ahead of tonight’s match, Mwepu said it’s going to be a tough game but they are going to give it everything so as to collect maximum points.
“We are ready and prepared for the game. Looking at the loss we got from Nigeria we are going into this game with courage and boldness that we want to win because we know that it’s not going to be easy but we are ready and what we just need to go there is to give everything that we can and we are positive we are going to get maximum 3 points,” Mwepu said
The Redbull Salzburg Midfielder said that they believe and work as a team and are able to withstand pressure but their aim and focus is to collect maximum points as they have what it takes to achieve that.
“We are a team that believes in our self. We know our qualities and what we are capable of doing. Knowing that this game has everything, the most important thing for us is to win and we are positive we will collect a maximum of 3 points. I believe there’s going to be a lot of pressure not only from us but Ivory Coast as well but we are going into this game ready and to give everything.”
Knowing very much how important this game is to them, Mwepu said that they are hopeful and have capabilities of scoring a lot of goals as this will matter especially bearing in mind the results in the other game between Nigeria and South Africa.
Firstly we allowed 3 goals against Nigeria this time around we just have to know how we can score more goals. I think if we score more goals and see how the results will be it will give us more courage to qualify because we are an ambitious team and have done that before so we are hopeful that we can do it in this game by scoring a lot of goals-Mwepu
Fashion Sakala who got injured in the first game will miss today’s match and Mwepu feels they will miss him but he has called on his Teammates to adjust to the system and those who will be given a chance should prove a point that they are also good players.
“It’s quite a hard situation in the team looking at the qualities that Fashion Sakala has, he’s one of our leaders and players who gives hope to the team that we can still get the goals and play at a good level and seeing him out of the team through an injury is something that we as a team we need to adjust, ” he said.
“We have a lot of good players also that will come in and do the work I believe everyone who will be in will work as much as Fashion can do.”
South Africa is on top of Group B on 4 points, Nigeria and Cote D’lvoire are at par with 3 points and occupy second and third positions respectively while Zambia are bottom of the table with only a point and as things stand all the four teams have a chance to qualify to the semi-finals.
This group will wrap up this evening with log leaders South Africa battling it out with Nigeria in a top-two finish while Zambia and Cote D’lvoire will lock horns in another do or die at the Al Salam Stadium and Cairo International Stadium respectively and will Kick-Off simultaneously at 20:00hrs(CAT).
