Twiga assistant coach upbeat

TANZANIA Women’s National team assistant coach Adna Lema said her side can pummel their Zambian counterparts into submission, in the return leg of the opening round of the 2018 Africa Women Cup of the Nations (AWCON) qualifiers, tournament to be played in Ghana.

The Twiga Stars slumped to overcome Shipolopolo in the first leg played at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, sharing the spoils in a 6 goals thriller.

Stumai Abdalah and Asha Rashid with a brace, were Tanzania’s scorers on the day – where as Barbara Banda struck a double, with Misozi Zulu netting the equalizer.

Speaking to zambianfootball.co.zm from Tanzania, Lema said the tie is still open and both teams have got equal chances of progressing to the next round. She indicated that she was aware playing away from home was going to be an uphill task.

“We can beat Shipolopolo despite failing to do so at home. It’s part of football, sometimes it happens,” she said.

“Football is all about 90 minutes so I know the second leg will be tough but still the game is open and anyone can go to the next round.”

According to CAF official website, the return leg match is supposed to be played on 8th April 2018, at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

Before the most recent meeting, the Twiga Stars and Shepolopolo clashed in 2014, when the latter reigned supreme with a 3-2 aggregate victory, en-route to Africa’s Women flagship competition finals in Namibia.

Later, the Zambian girls were hounded out from the 2015 All-African Games qualifiers by the Twiga Stars with a stunning 4-2 victory in Lusaka, before slumping 3-2 in Dar es Salaam, advancing with 6-5 scoreline on aggregate.
