Throwback Thursday: Solly Pandor’s last AFCON tournament

Today on throwback, we remember the life, dedication and selflessness of Solly Pandor.

In the photo: Head coach – Herve Renard, 1st Assistant – Patrice Beumulle, 2nd Assistant – George Lwandamina, Team manager – Solly Pandor, Team Doctor – Joseph Kabungo during the quater final match against Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations 2010 at the Tundavala stadium in Lubango, Angola on January 25, 2010.

This was the last time he was sitting on the Chipolopolo bench as Chipolopolo manager.

With Zambia having failed to go past the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament since the 2006 tournament, a new technical bench which had Pandor as team manager and led by Herve Renard was put together in 2008 which saw Zambia to the quarter finals of the 2010 tournament.

Zambia were held to a 0 – 0 draw by Nigeria in the quarter finals and lost 5 – 4 on penalties after Thomas Nyirenda missed his spot kick.

He served Zambia at five Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

The momentum from this tournament was carried on to the 2012 tournament where Zambia emerged champions.

Thank you Solly for your contribution to Zambian football, thank you very much.

Very sad indeed at the rate we lose people of his calibre, who would have helped in taking our football to greater heights e.g. Former officials, coaches and players who would have rubbed off their experiences to the current generation

Very sad news. RIP Solly Pandor. We will forever be thankful for the professional manner in which you handled the Chipolopolo logistics.

This very Sad NEWS. This man served the Nation faithfully, tirelessly and was committed to his job. One of the best Team Managers of our National Soccer team.
Never heard him complain despite some short comings in different FA Managements he served under.

Go well Mr Pandor and thanks for everything you did. “HAMBA KAHLE…”

  1. very dedicated service to Zambian football. Contributed in a humble, sober and efficient manner, even when Renard doubted your organizational capabilities, you won him over with delivery. Rest in Peace Solly, your name remains firmly embedded in Zambian soccer history.
