Throw Back: KK11 dismantle Taifa Stars

A brace from Justin Shonga helped Zambia to a 4-1 win over Tanzania in the semi finals of the Cosafa Cup on Wednesday to ease the pressure on under-fire coach Wedson ‘Wada Wada’ Nyirenda.

Flashback 25 years ago, Zambia welcomed the visit of neighbour at Independence Stadium, the team which was commonly referred as KK11 demolished the Taifa Stars in the ‘Battle of Tanganyika’.

Skipper of the side Kalusha ‘Great Kalu’ Bwalya and Johnstone ‘One Commando’ were the scorers just like the 4-0 bashing of Italy.

The two Bwalyas, no relationship, got a brace each.

The side had Efford Chabala, Eston Mulenga and Samuel Chomba in its ranks

    Johnston Bwalya deserves a special mention in keeping the team alive after the loss. He packed a powerful shot, thats why i don’t like discouraging long range efforts from younng boys like Musondaa.
