Sven: We conceded a stupid goal
Chipolopolo coach Sven Vandenbroeck has described the manner in which Zambia conceded in their 2-1 victory over Guinea Bissau yesterday at Lusaka’s National Heroes Stadium as stupid.
A mistake in the penalty box by seasoned goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene saw Mendy benefiting and reducing the loss for the visitors to 2-1.
The Chipolopolo coach attributed the mistake to the pressure exerted by the Central Africans towards end of the encounter.
“All in the end because of a little bid of pressure from our opponents we conceded a stupid goal. It gave us a little bit of a bad felling in the back,” he said.
However Sven was content and praised the performance of his charges. He said Chipolopolo players played better than their counterparts.
“But everyone in our team was better than our opponents. I think everyone did well. But everyone was good, our defence was strong.”
And Sven said he was not yet relieved, much less when there was three games to play. He said he will only relax after qualification.
“No, because in the end you still don’t have advantage. The relief is when you have qualified. Until then we are in the race of six games. Half is played, and next Sunday the game is even more important than today. So the relief, no. We knew what we had to do today and we brought the task to a good act.”
