Super League Preview: Race for Confederations Cup hots up

Kitwe giants Nkana won’t be in action this weekend but they will be an interested party and follow how proceedings will unleash at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday.

With the league already banked in Cairo road, Zanaco will be presented with the trophy in Mufulira after a dead rubber game against Mufulira Blackpool.

Blackpool, Lusaka Tigers and Lusaka Dynamos have all be relegated while Nakambala still has chance to beat the chop.

Weekend key game

Zesco United v Nakambala Leopards – Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Ndola

Napsa Stars, Mufulira Wanderers and  Nchanga Rangers are all on 39 points while Choma Green Eagles and Lumwana Radiants have 38 points while Nakambala is on 35 points. Both Nakambala and Lumwana have two games remaining while the rest in the drop zone have only  one game.

In a scenario that the Sugar Boys win both their remaining games, then it means that they will end the season on 41 points and it means they can beat the drop zone.

While Nakambala need to win to survive, Zesco will also have to bank three points to keep the dream of continental football next season.

The Barclays Cup winners have 63 points while second placed Nkana is on 67 points.

Should the Tenant Chembo coached that pick up maximum points in their next two games, they will then move to 69 points to take the battle for CAF Confederations Cup to the wire next week.

  1. PAPA GAME says:

Hard lucky ba nkana second place is our zega mambo all the way.we cant afford dropping points were we are.zesco had a busy season this year. But i would have loved ZESCO win the league then nkana second because zanaco when it comes to international game awe mwandi kuwayawayafye.GO GO ZEGA MAMBO

    • it wont be an easy game for Zega but you xant take everything away from tge Ndola giants. they will need a much resilient team to break them. Does rhe sugar boy ve rhat to break Zega down?.

  2. Zagwa says:

Zamfoot, is there no possibilty of Zambia getting the extra two slots in the CAF competition looking at ZESCO’s performance this year? Sudan has been doing badly in the last few years and I thought they need to lose their 2 extra slots. It would be great to have Zanaco and Zesco in Champions league and Nkana and Power in CAF cup

  3. Mambwe ZimaNdola says:

@Zagwa i also need clarification on tht as well coz this article sounds like thr only 2 places available. So atishani ba Zamfoot?

  4. Big Steve 4rm SA says:

I also wait with my fingers crossed we get an extra slot in the CAF champions league but when I look at what happened to Pirates history tells me it wont happen. Pirates actually did better than Zega by reaching the final and still South Africa did not get an extra slot. Anyway never say never.

  5. Martinez says:

Two extra slots have been given but will only be available next season. The top four next season will participate in caf games

  6. Mumbi says:

This thing of ranking leagues is disadvantaging good teams to compete in Caf games.
