Shonga, Mulenga combine to send Pirates to TKO finals

South Africa top side Orlando Pirate sailed to the finals of the Telkom Knock-out with a 2 – 1 win over rivals Kaizer Chiefs thanks to a late goal by Chipolopolo striker Justin Shonga.

Shonga was named in the starting line-up but his countryman Augustine Mulenga came off the bench to provide the assist for the inform former Nkwazi striker.

Pirates were the first to striker through Lorch in the 13th minute but Chiefs equalized 5 minutes later when Castro beat Mabogkwane in the Pirates goal from close range.

Mulenga was introduced in the 70th minute and 13th minutes later he did well to send a cross in from the right which found Shonga. The 22 year old attempted a spectacular bicycle kick but missed the ball only for him to pick himself quickly to control the ball and shoot past Khune in the Chiefs goal.

If shonga is maturing more like wine. He managed to surpass his last season’s performance. I predict a good season for him. He should work hard to remain on top goal scorer chat. He has to score double digits…

13 games in and 3 goals is not the best return for a striker but then again the top goal scorer has 4 goals at this stage. It is the same old story in the PSL of lack of goals.

Shonga is showing some serious potential and seems to have won the coaches heart as is evidenced by the amount of game time he is getting. I’m keeping my fingers crossed he hits the double digits come end of the season.

It will be a Zambian affair in the Telkom final with Pirates stars in the name of Justin Shonga and Augustine Mulenga against former Zambia no 1 coach Wada wada.

It is already an amazing achievement for Wada to reach the final as no bookmaker would have ever predicted that Baroka would beat big teams like Wits and Sundowns on their way to the final. They have registered themselves as giant killers for sure. They will be hoping that the next giant will be Pirates.

As a Pirates supporter I’m torn between who to support as I would love to see Wedson succeed in the PSL and a cup as big as the Telkom cup would be the perfect step in that direction.

Shonga should continue working hard, even harder than ever before. At the rate he is going Europe will soon open the door for him. At least one door.
He has age on his side to make this dream happen.
Sometimes he misses so much because he also is a workhorse, just like his countryman Augustine.
These two are always in the thick of things and at times Shonga is found just inches behind because he would be the one who orchestrates the same pass that finds him in an awkward position.
Keep it up Mwaiche the sky will soon not be the limit.
Ba Chipolopolo coach, always try and use these two workhorses together and lets see the results.
