Grapevine filtering out of South African has it that Zambian international striker Justin Shonga, who is currently in the books of Orlando Pirates, may be sidelined for a while after news emerged that he signed for two different clubs.

The local media in that country have reported that Shonga penned two contracts, with Mamelodi Sundowns and Pirates respectively. He made his debut for the Buccaneers this past weekend when they played to a 2-2 stalemate with Polokwane City.

Mumelodi Sundowns spokesperson Thulani Thuswa confirmed to local a media house that the former Nkwazi player has a contract with Abafana Ba Style.

“Yes, the boy signed a contract with Sundowns in July. He signed a five-year contract. It was three years with an option to renew with two years.

“Our legal team is having a look at the matter and we will then refer our contract to the Premier Soccer League. We are pursuing the matter.

“Shonga was supposed to join us in January, but couldn’t join us in this transfer window because we have already exceeded our foreign quota,” Thuswa elaborated.

  1. Do these players have professional managers to advise them. These two teams should just agree since Mamelod had their foreign quota full

    • Its not a question of been dull, what about his parent club Nkwazi, whom were they dealing with, where have they sold their player to, whom have they gotten the money from? They are the questions that pegs your answers.

  2. Sundowns just stop it. Shonga is only a small boy, out to do a job on Nigeria if the time favors Chipolopolo. Just let it go now. All the Under – 20 stars we have produced in recent times you never made a move for a single one. You have been a let down with signing Zambian players in recent times SA. Just forgive this boy now. By the way how do you do it when you play Nigeria. You always beat them.

  3. Oh no! Ba coach its time to enjoy a humble pie just mother Zambia, let’s call back up , call Kalaba and Sate Sate its not too late man. Drop Shonga right away no compromise we want an outright win this game is a decider please. SA will always try to destroy Zambia. Mukuka Mulenga is the example. This news has come at the either side of the coin. Ifwe tulimuchinwe..ninankwe nankwe Nigeria in Uyo, the Copper bullets will shoot down Super Eagles.

  4. Who are Shonga’s Agents? How does someone expose his buffoonery in such kind of a manner – signing for two clubs in a single season? The level of excitement on the part of Shonga and his agents is saddening!

  5. South African clubs fond of wasting Zambians time as though they have more to offer. It’s their business to pile up talented players on their books and not giving them time to display in the field. I feel they should have learnt how Mukuka was ill treated. Shonga & Mwila could not have trekked down South.
It’s a pity that they over excited themselves. I was 99℅ confident that Zambia had rediscovered the colours of the late Kelvin Mutale’s scoring magic.

What a blow to their carriers. But Sundowns must relieve them from that issue as far as the guy is still young. Don’t block him his career. I recall it once happened to the late Webster Chikabala in the 90s.

He was banned by Fifa after he had signed for FC Porto before he had finished his Belgium club contract.

We need you guys to go further. Be disciplined.

    Thanx

  6. Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are unlikely to go head-to-head in a legal battle for Zambian striker Justin Shonga.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane recently revealed that Shonga had signed a contract with them, but the Zambian has since made his debut for the Buccaneers in a 2-2 draw with Polokwane City, not long after he was announced as a new Pirates player by chairman Irvin Khoza.

Shonga, who played in a friendly international against Bafana Bafana at Moruleng Stadium in June, has allegedly signed two contracts, but KickOff.com has been informed that the clubs will look to settle the matter behind closed doors.

The 20-year-old forward is said to have signed a three-year contract with Sundowns, with an option to extend for two years.

Despite the striker’s move to join the Buccaneers, Sundowns are not going to make a big deal of it in the media. They have chosen to remain calm about the matter.

Club spokesperson Thulani Thuswa did not want to go deep into the issue, but did say they are handling it.

“At this stage we can’t say much about the matter. We are dealing with it as a club,” he said.
