Shonga assist helps Pirates thrash Sundowns
Chipolopolo striker Justin Shonga on Saturday helped his South Africa PSL club Orlando Pirates to a vital 3 – 1 away win over log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Shonga has been slowly finding his fit in the PSL and he made his fourth consecutive start for the club in a top of the bill clash.
Despite not scoring yet, the 21 year old repaid former Uganda national team coach – Milutin Sredojevic’s faith to play him at the tip of his attack with an assist for the second goal.
It was a great effort from Shonga who was pressing from the top to steal the ball from the defender and quickly lay it off for Mpho Makola who made no mistake to slam the ball past Goalkeeper Dennis Onyango.
Despite having a very impressive first half, he was withdrawn 10 minutes into the second half.
Chipolopolo number 1 Kennedy Mweene did not make the team for Sundowns.
The win sees Pirates move into third position on 26 points, five points behind Sundowns.
Rodrick Kabwe and Brian Mwila both didn’t make the bench for their teams Ajax Capetown and Platinum Stars respectively when the former won 3 – 1 at home.
Mwila last featured in November and has only played four games due to injury.
