Mamba Energy Stars, The Coal miners have continues their free scoring play at home and kept their Super league promotion ambitions alive thanks to a heavy hammering of Young Green Eagles 4-1 at Kanzinze Stadium in Maamba on Saturday.
VETERAN striker Kelvin Chongo struck a brace as Maamba Energy Stars registered their biggest victory of the season in style to close the gap between them and Maramba Stars to just one point.
On Saturday, The Kanzinze Stadium was not packed to the rafters as has been the case but those who did not come missed a lively encounter that saw the miners demolish log leaders Young Green Eagles
Maamba Energy went into the game looking to get back to winning was after losing 1-0 to Zambia Air Force Livingstone Sponsored side Blue Arrows in midweek and their determination payed off.
It was the visitors who started on a high note to make a mark but it was the home side who drew first blood just 20 minutes into the game when Sidney Kanjengo broke the deadlock. The visitors pushed for an equaliser but it did not come and the match went to the break with the home side leading 1-0.
Mamba Energy needed only 7 minutes in the second half to double their lead, Mdfielder Lucky grabbing the hosts second goal. The Miners continued their assault on The Eaglets as they went on a count-attack in the 64th minute with their inform striker Kelvin Chongo scoring the third goal of the match to send the few fans at the Kanzinze Stadium into a frenzy.
Six minutes later Kelvin scored his second and fourth for the hosts and smashing the final nail in Young Green Eagles’s coffin to almost wrap up a massive win for the home side.
Eaglets nearly pulled one back in the 75th minute but the goal was disallowed for offside. Three minutes later they were however given a penalty after a Mamba defender was penalized for dragging down the visitors striker inside the box and Eagles coolly converted it the resulting penalty but it was little too late and the match ended 4-1.
