Zambia’s remaining envoys in the CAF Confederation cup Nkana will this afternoon kick start their 2018 CAF confederation cup campaign. The twelve time super league champions are away in Algiers against CR Belouizdad.
Nkana are looking replicate their 2014 form which saw them reach the group stages under the tutelage of late Coach Masauso Mwale.
FORM
Belouizdad have only won four times in their domestic league from 22 matches they have played and have managed 12 draws with only six losses. In the Confederation cup they dispatched off Onze Creatuers of Mali by three goals to one to set up a meeting with Nkana.
Nkana on the other hand are yet to be very active domestically but have already dispatched off Zanaco in the semi-final of the Charity Shield. In this competition this will be their first game as they were on BYE in the preliminary round.
NKANA’S WEAPON
Nkana’s biggest threat is the attacking trio of Walter Bwalya, Ronald Kampamba and Idris Ilunga Mbombo. Kampamba is Nkana’s top goalscorer among active players with 87 goals since 2010 . Sate-Sate as he is fondly refereed to was key in Nkana reaching the group stages the last time the wusakile giants played in this competition.
Walter Bwalya has been the team’s top goalscorer in the last two seasons with 37 league goals in just two seasons.
Idris Ilunga Mbombo is another one expected to give Belouizdad’s defence alot of nightmares with his aerial presence. The former Zesco Unuted attacker was the second highest top goalscorer in the 2016 CAF Campions league despite having a injury burdened year and was just two goals short of the eventual golden boot winner Mfon Udoh of Enyimba.
NKANA’S WEAKNESS
Despite Moses Mapulanga being in fine form and conceding only 10 goals in 32 appearances last season his defence has not been convincing.
The Midfield is also another worry as it does not have alot of creative players with Shdreck Musonda,Simon Bwalya and Sate-Sate being the creative minds.
PROBABLE LINE-UP
Moses Mapulanga
Gift Zulu
Diego Apanane
Amos Simwanza
John Mwengani
Yannick Mulenda
Jacob Ngulube
Shadreck Musonda
Idris Ilunga Mbombo
Walter Bwalya
