Power Withdraw from Barclays

Power Dynamos have pulled out of the 2017 Barclays Cup, two weeks before facing Zanaco in the quarter-finals.

Power secretary Ricky Mamfunda, who confirmed the withdrawal in an interview yesterday, said the club has written to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) about the decision.
Mamfunda, however, could not give reasons why the club has pulled out. “Yes, I can confirm we have pulled out of this year’s Barclays Cup. We have written to FAZ on our decision to withdraw. Any further details should be gotten from FAZ,” he said.

I don’t have any details why Power want to withdraw but to be honest it doesn’t make sense. Is it monetary issues? I thought the Barclays cup provided an opportunity for clubs to earn a few coins since the money from the FAZ MTN sponsored league was not enough?

Power is too big a club to just withdraw from a cup competition like the Barclays cup especially that it is the only cup competition available. The club is denying fans an opportunity to watch some nice knock out football. Unless there are very good reason that have been put forward I feel Power are being very disrespectful to us fans. Zambia only has two competitions in other countries they have four or even five competitions but we dont hear of any clubs withdrawing from competitions. Please Gentlemen reconsider your position otherwise that decision is very retrogressive
