Power Dynamos set to announce Kelvin Kaindu as coach

Zambian Super League side Power Dynamos are set to announce Kelvin Kaindu as their coach, the ZamFoot Crew can exclusively reveal.

The Kitwe giants have been searching for a coach in the last 10 days or so after former coach Dan Kabwe left by mutual consent.

A host of coaches from other rival local leagues clubs send in their applications but the Power Dynamos executive opted for the former Zanaco winger.

Former players trio Aggrey Chiyangi, Linos Makwaza and Tenant Chilumba were among the favourites alongside former Chipolopolo Boys and Zesco United coach George Lwandamina were among the favourites.

Chiyangi is currently with the local national team in Morocco at the CHAN tournament and is the head coach of Green Eagles, while Makwaza is the caretaker coach at Napsa Stars but the lure of Arthur Davies Stadium is too strong to ignore.

For Chilumba, he is clubless after he was dismissed by Napsa Stars last season and has also been linked with the job at Kabwe Warriors.

Lwandamina is in Tanzania with Young Africans.

Despite all these top coaches, the Power Dynamos executive are settling for Kaindu, a man who has never coached in any Zambian league since he retired from playing football at Sunset Stadium.

Lwandamina was also linked with a Buildcon job

The ZamFoot Crew understands that his CV stunned Power Dynamos officials.

He is a holder of a UEFA B coaching licence compared to other applicants who have CAF A or B.

“The executive have been impressed with his CV. He is ambitious and wants to win the league,” a ZamFoot Crew source said.

“Look at what Numba (Mumamba) is doing at Zanaco and Tenant (Chembo) at Zesco, its about giving these young coaches the chance to coach.

If confirmed, Kaindu will be hoping to emulate his former teammate Numba Mumamba who has done a good job at Sunset Stadium.

Numba was fast tracked from Young Zanaco and in his first season, he led Zanaco to a league title and finished second last season.

Despite having not coached in Zambia, Kaindu was scared to go into unknown territory and ended up making his name in Zimbabwe were he had successful coaching stints with How Mine and Highlanders.
