Player Ratings: Namibia 1 – 1 Zambia (CHAN 2018)

Zambia topped Group B after a hard earned 1 – 1 draw against Namibia.

The ZamFoot Crew looks at how the players faired against a Brave Warriros side.

Toaster Nsabata 7/10 – A tricky ball into the box beat him but could have saved it with better anticipation. He redeemed himself when he saved on a one on one situation and later came off his line quickly to narrow the angle for the attacker when Zambia was caught on the counter-attack.

Simon Silwimba 6.5/10 – Solid at the back but not offering much going forward. He will miss the next game after picking his second card in the group stage

Fackson Kapumbu 5.5/10 – He seemed to lack the depth in the game with some questionable positioning in some instances. Got Zambia in trouble early in the game when he attempted an unnecessary back-heel only to lose the ball but was bailed out by his colleagues

Adrian Chama 7/10 – Good game by the Buffalo. He covered a lot of ground at the back and was alert to danger. Highlight was when he shot over Nsabata’s bar as he desperately cleared with the Warriors’ striker lurking.

Ziyo Tembo 7.5/10 – Leading from behind and complimenting well with Chama. His reading of the gane is great and he made several last ditch interceptions

Donashano Malama 8/10 – He has been the mainstay of the Zambia midfield tirelessly covering the spaces and trying to dictate play despite his lack of natural ability to pull the strings.

Kondwani Mtonga 5/10 – May be his worst game in a Chipolopolo jersey. He struggled to command possession in the midfield and offered very little going forward. His point blank miss when a cross from Ernest Mbewe seemed to hit him to go over the bar when he should have easily planted the header in the net summed up his game.

Ernest Mbewe 9/10 – What more can the  coach ask from a player? He defended well when Namibia attacked on the right and used his pace to great effect. He could have walked away with three assists and a goal but he will be content with a record of making an assist in each game so far.

Mike Katiba 6/10 – Started wide then came in the hole but failed to offer the penetration. Even in the hole it did not work for him. He was substituted for Samu.

Augustine Mulenga 7.5/10 – Another notable performance. Good on the ball but happy to play as part of the team.

Lazarous Kambole 8/10 – He doesn’t stop running. Whether he pops up in the wide areas or through the middle making it difficult for defenders. Showed great instinct with his movement to position himself and slam home for the equalizer.

SUBSTITUTES

Friday Samu 7/10 – Determined lad fighting from the top and trying to make nuisance of himself. Hardly had a sniff at goal

Jack Chirwa 5/10 – He was expected to steady the ship when he came on but he failed to find his place in the maze and Namibia were overrunning the midfield.

Larry Bwalya 5/10 – Nothing to wrote home about on his senior team debut. He could have won it for Zambia in the final minutes when the ball fell kindly for him only to head in the hands of the keeper with his back to goal.

Coach Wedson Nyirenda 6/10 – He said in the post match interview that his boys underestimated Namibia but it seems it was him who did going by the way he set out his team. He started with Mulenga who offers balance in midfield with his ability to track back playing high up the field in what seemed to be an experiment.  His subs did little to change the game but kudos to him for knowing how to grind out a result.

  1. After Kondwani Mtonga was withdrawn we struggled to have a meaningful ball possession. So I wonder how Donashano Malama can have 8/10, to me it shows that we are encouraging the “to whom it may concern type of football” no system, only physic.

  2. But Zoona, we don’t have impact players. Coach please together with technical bench improve on game management even though we are playing good football. I was very disappointed after the introduction of Larry Bwalya and over hyped ati maestro Jack Chirwa. Ba FAZ please keep close eye on the coach otherwise if we fail to lift the trophy the wind of change will blow.

  3. Who conjures up these ratings? None of the Zambian players could have gotten a 9/10 in that march. The best should be 6/10 and the worst 2/10. That Silwimba fellow is a 4/10.
