Patson named player of the tournament

Zambian striker Patson Daka has been named the player of the  tournament at the just ended CAF Under-20 Africa of Nations.

And five Zambians have been named in the team of the tournament.

Goalkeeper Mangani Banda, who was named the man of the match in the final is the best young goalkeeper on the continent.

Skipper Solomon Sakala is part of a three man defence which comprises two Senegelese defenders while Fashion Sakala and Edward Chilufya are in a five man midfield.

Fashion ended the tournament with 3 goals

Chilufya was one of three players together with Patson and South Africa’s Luther Singh on four goals but the latter ended with the top scorer award thanks to the two assists he provided.

Patson and Singh are the twin strikers.

Enock Mwepu and Prosper Chiluya made the bench

  1. Great report, credit all around starting from preparation in Spain where some people were critical. Build a wonderful team who looks like scoring every time they go forward. Proud Zambian indeed bring on the World Cup draw on Wednesday.

    • Right. The Preparation was great, even though some Kalu cadres where whinning and wanting Zambia to play teams like Ghana, IV, Nigeria etc.

  2. Thanks zamfoot good analysis 5 players out of 11 is a good contribution, who is the caoch of the tournament am amazed by a lot of armchair critics on this blog who never appreciate hard work. Best in is being criticized for coming up with the champions of Africa first Zambian caoch to archive such a feat. Am just proud of the boys and proudly Zambian right now!!!

  3. This is a good sum up of the Final, thanks ZAMFOOT.
It shows how real the Champions Zambia are. Winning all games and winning the man of the match award in each game they participated, and finally best Goal Chipper: Man of the Tournament and Best Fan of the Tournament.

How about best quote of the Tournament: Our Land; Our Soil; Our Cup.
Cup Isale. Initially I thought that nabashapo ‘H,’ somewhere so it reads, ‘Ishale’ then I realised the Final was in Lusaka, so the message was in Nyanja.

Since we have been there and seen that, we now we look for more horizons to conquer. BA Zambia, Iyeeee….

  4. Paradox this is what we have been talking about, there no personal issues with kamanga .It is the boys who have made us proud because we believe we have huge talent in this country and when these administrators do wrong things that is when we come in and criticize not that we are against kamanga. There is no difference between senegal players and your self -primitive accumulation. Problem you started watching football yesterday and think you know it all- namashinsha muli bamba yobe.

    • Come on Egwugwu, give kamanga credit for preparing this team adequately. Even if we have talent, if it was not prepared well before the tournament then we would not have won the cup, and you people wuld have come here calling for Kamanga’s head to be chopped. So please, lets be honest and fail, credit goeas to Kamanga to leading this team into good preparations, then coach for making the players into buying into his tactics, then the players that excuted the game plan directed by their coaches. Also credit goes to the fans that showed up in numbers. Kalu greats credit too for helping in bring the cup to Zambia. Why is it so difficult for you people to be fair and present facts they should? Kamanga is the FAZ president and in case you did not know he plans on the on goings of our teams including sourcing and approving funds to prepare the teams for games/tournaments.

    • i know you and the defeated guru, how you attack kamanga even when there is no evidence to show that he has done wrong. typical of bakandile conduct.

    WWWWWWWWLWWWWWW

The Newly crowned Young African champions recorded 13 wins out of 14 games they played in just 3 months. Only the mighty Barcelona stopped them but still managed to get a goal.

In that period, Zambia managed to score 32 goals while allowing only 9.

They managed 7 clean sheets and again only Barca managed to score more than 1 goal against Zambia.

In these 3 months they won two titles: COSAFA and Africa Cup.

The word ‘Fatigue’ doesn’t appear in their vocabulary

  6. But Mwepu come on just drop the smile in the next game, probably you will partner Sinkala in Wadas team. On the physical side, i saw he could retaliate in the most professional way, maybe that explains the smile, makes him deceptive. Zambia senior national team midfield lacks a box to box guy and thats Mwepu. Over to you Wada. Patson and Chilufya can also be injected in immediately. Let me stop.

  7. The greatest achievement with this team is that they relied on each other so much in defence and in attack. As a result they created so many chances. What a team.

  8. Ati impeachment motion for Kamanga ehh ??? lets hear that again abena Kasama ! Congratulations ama Be and the boys. You have entered the league of legends, Patrick Phiri, George Lwandamina and now you. I thank God to have lived to experience winning two AFCONS for Zambia, i know it will be a long time before another one comes along.

  9. This is the comment I posted in the morning and I am happy that @kuku agrees with me 90% on which players should considered for the senior team.

Zambia win first U20 title after beating Senegal

    March 13, 2017 at 9:52 am

To be honest the this team is the best u20 team of our time why :
    1. They are spiritual and hungry for victory.
    2. Patriotic.
    3. Very skilled including the bench and those who were dropped.
    4. Our defense was very calm, they could dribble and make intelligent passes.
    5. The midfielders were not only good at distributing the ball but also very skillful and intelligent.
    6. I loved, not liked, the movement of the boys upfront they showed maturity and are, to be honest, ready to take on bigger boys.

Let me single out players whom I have seen to be mature to take on bigger boys.
    1. Patson Daka
    2. Fashion Sakala
    3. Boyd Musonda (needs to be educated with regards to discipline)
    4.Edward Chilufya.

Enock Mwepu needs some more maturity, wow,I love this boy on the ball that’s why we do not need to rush him.
There is no solid cohesion in the back line as we seem to be in panic whenever faced with with a sharp front line, please Ba Coach sharpen that back-line if you do so with also a few changes upfront the World cup will come into Zambia. Upfront, the striking force, please try and find a mix of creativity so as to release Fashion Sakala and Patson Daka. If we solidify our back-line and Sharpen our front-line more then we can match the prowess of some of the best creative team in the world like Argentina, Brazil and Germany.
The other thing is we need some motivational chats to the Boys not to be afraid of names and the colour, these Boys are talented and skilled please camp them as promised in Europe mainly to expose them to other dynamics and environments.

    • I would add prosper chiluya to that list and mangani Banda (needs serious grooming but massive potential)

      • I agree those Boys were instrumental in our line of defense including their Captain Solomon Sakala(He needs some maturity and confidence).

    • Ye man. Truth is we still have to play world cup qualifiers for Rusia and no one has said we are dead and buried. very difficult but who knows you can turn up with goals to defend, even from corners. And then the showing at home games will have to improve the under 20 team has shown the way.

  10. I Would like to congratulate the boys for emerging victorious of the competition. I am optimistic of the futures of these boys to be very bright. I am utmost pleased with the discovery of Edward Chilufya; to me the boy scored 6 goals – those two disallowed in the Guinea game were clear goals. For someone who was unheard-of on the Zambian soccer scene, he impressed a lot . With levelheadedness, the boy from Kasama has a very bright future.

I am equally pleased with Proper Chiluya. whoever is playing left full-back at the senior team, their days are numbered.

I was disappointed, on the other hand, with more established players, whose names before the start of the tournament filled our mouths in exception of them making a mark in the competition; players like Boyd Musonda. If Boyd was played out of position take him back to where he is comfortable and look for a better anchorman because in South Korea we will be ran rings at on Boyd’s time – whatever happened to Ngosa Sunzu. I was Disappointed with Shemmy Mayembe too. We seriously need to start finding an alternative for Mayembe on the right fullback because in South Korea he will be ripped in pieces with his misplaced passes, untimely dribbles and wayward running. I am worried on the lack of dynamism by the coach, not that it matters – we won the cup! But we were one dimensional too much that maybe it might work against us in South Korea. Imagine a stadium without the 60,000 fans to cheer them…

  12. Congrats 2 da boys dey shud now focus on da task ahead & dat’s world cup in Korea. Don’t rush in signing contracts wth any african clubs better european teams will come in at da world cup & offer u good contracts. I wud lyk 2 thank da entire team, management, fanz & da goverment at large wthout u it wud have been impossible 2 achieve dis great history for Zambian football, 2 u all I say job well done & God bless Zambia.

  13. Congrats to the U20 for lifting the cup. This team has given Us the backbone to build our future national team on.Its decision time for Charles Musonda and his talented wonder kid Charly Musonda junior.there is time for everything.Zambians had their time begging for the boy to join the team. Now that time has evaporated fast.No one cares anymore for the boy to join our team. The Under 20 World cup is a huge stage for the boy to show his talent. they need to humble themselves and go back to the roots or continue parading under the acquired citizenship, just hope the boy will get the same exposure there.

  14. All that criticism that was heaped on Patson Daka has ended up making a better player….so thanks all you critics , our man is as sharp as ever.

    • And I love the fact the he went to the Austrian team before the tournament, that the best team he can further develop for now in my opinion

  15. @ T C SOCCER MAN,
you are very obsessed with your kamanga, you want every one to sing praise to your kamanga.
Your boss never approved funding for Spain outing, it was a fully paid outing by G R Z.
This was a first time ever for the government to sponsor any junior team.
    Dont cheat pipo

    • Whatever, Grand, keep denying all you want, Zambian football is going up and it starts with building the young Chipolopolo and supporting them very well, something King Kalu was not doing while leading with a remote control from South Africa and getting paid including sagas like Kaili yali ni nkongole fye. Not everybody is fooled, we know whats up. Kalu is no more, Kamanga is king now, the sooner you realize the better for you. I get it, it pains you guys that there is no more wamuyaya, but thats okey. all is well with Kamanga fixing the mess Kalu created.

  16. Thanks to king kalu and company for identifying these under twenty boys. These are the products of airtel rising stars. The boys they have been playing together for more than three years.. Read the profile of fashion sakala.. Kamanga is like a man who buy preparation for woman who was impregnated by another man. Learn to say the truth.. I do not atribute this success to go preparation. The one who started this project is the one who did the dirty work. I was talking to one of the nigerians here and he told me that all the current projects in zimbia flopped . Under 17 and the senior team. The current under twenty its an old project. The whole continent knows about this. Only fools in zambia who took there time to write that had brought new life to zambian football. After under 20 world cup i feel sorry to you myopic people you are going to cry joyless. That kamanga wrote a letter to caf asking them to bar kalu from watching the boys. This is diabolical and behaved like a witchcraft. I give credit to kalu and congrutulation boys for winning the tournament. We are proud of you. Kamanga i will give you credit if chipolopolo a competetive game.. Since got into chipolopolo is yet to win a competetive match shame on you.. Joke of the year wada wada promised to take chipolopolo to the world cup.

  17. I will give you credit if chipolopolo record a win in a competetive match. Since you took over from king kalu zambia is yet to win a competetive match.. You have brought disaster to the nation.

  18. The problem with these kamang cardres is that they have a short memory. is this not the same patson daka you were insulting under kalu administration you fools you should be ashamed of yourself, the boy is now the player of the tournament my advise to you young man don’t listen to these good for nothing kamanga cadres who enjoy to see kalu and kamanga fighting just continue working hard don’t give up once more congratration for winning the award

  19. I am . disgusted by the monkeys who want to give Kalu credit for this ….but blame Kamanga for the demise of the senior team
…..u monkeys don’t think no point in arguing with u.

  20. gentlemen am disappointed with u dat u av nt mentioned de boy with de most assists, de one wen ever brought stabilized our midfield, de boy with de best goal of de tournament my best player Emmanuel banda wow this boy z gud ozil type… Watch out for this boy nt to say others were nt excellent

  21. @ soccer guru all project started by kamanga and co failed. He took over when the national team had 5 points and they to win even a single match and the same idiots like you blamed kalu. The under 17 boys they were caught cheating and the same idiots like you blame kalu. The under 17 failed to due lack of adequate preparations.. And world cup qualifer.. Zambia donated points to nigeria and lungu and kamanga celebrated and they praised their mediocre coach.. Am up to date with what is happening. Tell kamanga to ban kalu when they play algeria at home or nigeria in lagos.. If the under twenty because of good preparation let him do the samething for the senior team..

  22. If I were to choose my player of the tournament I would have cracked my head on Chiluya and Chilufya. These two are Zambia’s best players in my view. On another note, I am wondering why Patron was not handed the top goal scorer if at all the number of assists made was used to break the tie. In my view he made more than 2 assists.

  23. When there was age cheating at u17 level didn’t you same idiots blame Kamanga? You fools will never change, so the bad stuff, it’s Kamanga’s fault, the good stuff/win it’s Kalu ah futseke.

  24. Here are the UNDER 20 teams THAT HAVE qualified to the world:

AFC: Iran, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam (first appearance**)
CAF: Guinea, Senegal, South Africa, Zambia
CONCACAF: Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, USA
    CONMEBOL: Argentina, Ecuador, Uruguay, Venezuela
OFC: New Zealand, Vanuatu (first appearance**)
UEFA: England, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal

    DRAW PROCEDURES:

    ALLOCATION TO POTS:

    * The 24 qualified teams are allocated to four pots of six teams each, based on a ranking built according to past sporting performance

    * The ranking is based on the total points obtained in the last five FIFA U-20 World Cups (3 points for a win – 1 point for a draw, 0 for a loss)

    * The ranking used to build the pots is thus based on the points obtained at the 2015, 2013, 2011, 2009 and 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cups

    * To enable the ranking to accurately reflect current form, the greatest importance is given to results from the most recent FIFA U-20 World Cups. To a lesser degree, attention is also paid to results from previous years.

The system uses five cycles as the points earned in one World Cup decline linearly within the past five cycles:

    · Year 2015: 100% value of total points
    · Year 2013: 80% value of total points
    · Year 2011: 60% value of total points
    · Year 2009: 40% value of total points
    · Year 2007: 20% value of total points

In addition, five bonus points are added to each of the confederation champions that won a qualifying tournament.

Based on the above ranking, the five top teams and the hosts are allocated to Pot 1, the next six teams to Pot 2 and so on.

    This then means:

POT 1: Korea Republic, Portugal, Uruguay, France, USA, Germany

POT 2: Mexico, Argentina, New Zealand, Senegal, Japan, Costa Rica

POT 3: Zambia, Honduras, England, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Venezuela

POT 4: Ecuador, South Africa, Iran, Vietnam, Guinea, Vanuatu

    DRAW MECHANICS:

    – The four pots representing the teams are labeled Pots 1 to 4
    – The six pots representing the groups/venues are labeled Groups A to F
    – In each pot, there are four balls which contain the position numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 of each respective group
    – The draw starts with Pot 1 and ends with Pot 4
    – Each pot is completely emptied before moving on to the next pot
    – A ball from a team pot will be drawn, followed by a ball from one of the groups, thus determining the position in which the respective team will play.

    DRAW CONSTRAINTS:

    1. In Pot 1, Korea Republic are in a red ball and have been pre-assigned to position A1 as hosts
    2. FIFA’s general principle is to ensure that no group has more than one team from the same confederation drawn into it.

  25. Lusaka Dynamos naisa ! who is sponsoring them ??

    Ochaya seals Lusaka Dynamos move

© Kawowo Sports | AISHA NAKATO

Joseph Ochaya is reported to have sealed a deal with Lusaka Dynamos

KCCA and Uganda Cranes left fullback Joseph Ochaya has reportedly sealed a move to Zambian side, Lusaka Dynamos.

The Uganda Premier League reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP) has been linked with that same move for the past one month or so but remained at KCCA despite earlier flying to Zambia.

Kawowo Sports can reliably report that Ochaya, who also had a stint at Ghana’s Asante Kotoko before rejoining KCCA didn’t travel back to Uganda with his teammates in the aftermath of the 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns on Friday at the Lucas Moripe stadium in the CAF Champions League.

“It’s as well as done although details are yet divulge,” a source close to us from Zambia revealed.

    Last game against Sundowns

Furthermore, it’s reported that the return leg against the African champions at Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo will be his last game before he flies to Lusaka.

In case he moves, he will most likely re-unite with striker Herman Wasswa who is currently training with the club since leaving Express FC in January.

The two if signed will join Isaac Isinde (Buildcon) and Jimmy Bageya (Napsa Stars) as Ugandans in the Zambia Super League.

  26. @ TC SOCCER MAN
Are you aware that patson Daka was dropped from the national team immediately there was change of administration of faz, he was accused of being kalu s boy whom they thot not deserve to be in a national team
