Patson Daka enjoys game time at his new club

Zambia U20 national team striker Patson Daka was over the weekend in action for his Austrian club Liefering FC when they drew 1 – 1 with German club Wacker Burghausen in a club friendly match.

The former Power Dynamos striker started the practice match but was also substituted at half time when the coach made up to seven changes during the break.

This was the club’s final preparatory match ahead of the resumption of the season on 24th February.

Daka joined Liefering FC during the January transfer window and will be looking to help the second placed team earn a promotion to the top flight of the Austrian league.

They are currently second on the log in the Austrian second tier league, three points behind the log leaders.

The 18 year old is expected in the country in the next few days to beef up the U20 squad.

In response to the question from Spanner Man above (and it is a good question in light of the age-cheating problems last year), all sources I have found list Patson Daka’s birthday as being in October of 1998, which means he is currently 18 years old. On a side note, my family and I ran into him and some of the other young Chipolopolo players at the airport in Ethiopia back in June of 2015, and were also on the same flight with them to Lusaka, and Daka definitely looked very young then. I would not swear in court regarding his age, but it does appear likely that he is 18. In any case, best of luck to him in the U20 Africa Cup starting this weekend in Zambia, and also playing for his new side in Austria!
