Optimistic Micho expects a tough test from Eagles

Orlando Pirates coach Micho Sredejovic has described this year’s CAF Champions League path as very tough after he learned that his side was drawn against Green Eagles in the First Round of the preliminaries.

Eagles have in the recent seasons raised to the helm of African football and are contesting in the CCL for the very first after finishing top of Stream B in the transition season of the Zambian league but lost the coronation match to Zesco United.

The Choma based side was in East Africa in Rwanda to be more precise where they were taking part in the CECAFA Kagame tournament as a guest team, they managed to finish the tournament on a high with a bronze medal.

The two sides will play their first leg in Choma at Independence stadium in the second week of August before the return leg two weeks later in Johannesburg.

Speaking to the media, Buccaneers head coach Micho Sredejovic said: “It will certainly be much tougher than the path we took last year considering the level of opposition we are about to face.”

“Green Eagles are a high-quality side that finished strongly in the Zambian League, and they are also coached by Aggrey Chiyangi, who is the caretaker coach of the Zambian National Team. We can expect them to be very strong.”

He continued saying, “Starting the tie away from home gives us an opportunity to get our campaign off to a good start and once that is done, the roads will lead either to Zanzibar or Angola for another tough encounter.”

If Eagles successfully beat Orlando Pirates and make it through to the next round, they will most likely face Angolan giant 1° de Agosto. Agosto went throughout the 2018/19 season without losing any single-game scoring 51 goals and only conceding 9 goals in the process.

Orlando Pirates is a home of two Zambian international striker Justin Shonga and winger Augustine Mulenga. They also recently added Austin Muwowo on their books after completing his signing from Nkana football club.
