Nyirenda turns to foreign based players for Cosafa

Wedson Nyirenda has drafted in three foreign based players in the Chipolopolo squad that is currently camp ahead of the Cosafa Cup quarter final match against Botswana on Saturday as pressure continues to build for him to produce positive results.

Wada Wada has called the South African trio of Rodrick Kabwe of Ajax Capetown, Salulani Phiri of Polokwane City and Mwape Musonda who plays for Black Leopards.

The initial squad only had U20 international Emmanuel Banda as the only foreign based player in the team but he has pulled out of the team as he looks to settle in Belgium with his new club KV Oostende.

This coach is such an old school name playing coach.

  6. Enock says:

The biggest problem for Zed football has always been coach & admin, how on earth can you have a team poorly selected, because of restriction by the teams in zesco & Zanaco, win. But when the coach selected what he termed as the cream de la cream of zedian football lost to mozambique, yet the latter won against south africa. Somewhere somehow is, needs investigation!

  7. GRAND says:

I don’t understand this coach, who always claims to have a new phylosoph for the team.
Why did FAz give this coach a three year contract without probation ?
This is the coach without any experience at any level of national team but FAZ went on to award him a three year contract

    • Billy says:

State House is the one who told FAZ that there is no need for foreign based coach.

      • Big Steve 4rm SA says:

Yes Billy, people like to selectively forget that the instruction not to hire a foreign coach with more experience at this level of the game came from plot 1

      • Positive thinking says:

Thanks Billy. I have been harping on this point because Plot 1 should have no business making decisions for FAZ.

  8. zambia says:

It’s not too late to bring in Clatous Chama. he is a proven goal scorer

  9. kensplash says:

He has had national team experience at U-17 level. It looks like we have a problem with local coaches which is endemic and cannot be gotten rid of.It is time we started looking at players that are performing in the league other than playing names that are finished already. If this trend continues, then we are gonna have problems developing a solid team for the future.Maybe we need an expatriate coach.

  10. Billy says:

Wedson is not the right person to coach Zambia. I think all home based coaches have failed us. We need a foreign based coach.

  11. Sibs says:

Ba Coach may beat Botswana but going forward he wont take us anywhere. Forget Afcon 2019 in Cameroon as long as he remains Coach. Seriously we in trouble with this Coach.

  12. Tagagani says:

The coach is panicking, we have enough good players in the league who can win us the cosafa.

  13. ziko says:

I don’t know what the coach sees in donashano, chirwa, katema and Adrian which we the soccer fans do not see.these have failed us before.

  14. Chu says:

I love the Cosafa cup in that its good for countries like Seychelles and Mauritius. I love those guys and feel pity for their football but such tournament wont do Zambia any good.
Your problem is u have too wide a pool of mediocre players to choose from. There are low standards and all your players are only good among themselves. They fall short against better and organized team
