Nyirenda: Poor finishing costs us against Bafana

Chipolopolo Boys coach Wedson Nyirenda has said his side controlled the game against South Africa on Saturday in the Four Nations Tournament final.

Nyirenda also added his side disappointed the Chipolopolo faithful despite ‘attacking massively.’

South Africa stunned the home crowd at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium with a 2-0 victory.

The Zambian defence failed to handle the pacy of Percy Tau as he gave the visitors the lead in the first half.

French Ligue 1 duo Keegan Dolly and Lebo Mothiba combined for the second goal.

Montpellier’s Dolly’s defence splitting pass found Lille’s Mothiba who steered, a low shot past Toaster Nsabata to give Bafana Bafana a famous victory in Ndola.

“We just gave away the game. We controlled the game the whole 90 minutes and we were attacking massively.

“We created an average of scoring chances but we didn’t finish [them off]

“Once more we have disappointed our fans by not putting the ball in the back of the net

Asked about Zambia’s weak link, Nyirenda was bullish about it.

“I think we played a very good game. We did everything that we could but the ball could not just go into the back of the net.

“So we just need to work on that. And the end we gave away a silly goal.

Augustine Mulenga was substituted in the second half

When he was quizzed if he was satisfied with the team.

“Excellent, I think I have seen great football. The only thing to do is finish and defend well.

On using the Four Nations Tourney as a preparation for the Cameroon 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier, the gaffer was positive with what he saw.

“This tournament was the reason for the preparation.

“So such things when they come, you know where to start.

Zambia came second after a 2-0 defeat to South Africa in the final on Saturday.

The Chipolopolo Boys came from behind twice on Wednesday against Zimbabwe and booked the place in the final via a 5-4 post match penalties.

  1. Ba Kasamo Boy, time for what? You have put it very right that to use these tournamnet for testing players but the coach could not use all the players he picked as final 23. Look at S.A coach he changed the entire team apart from one player and thats shows how ambitious the coach is. Try all the players you called simple as that and do be limited as if you don’t have other options.

    • you play rodrick kabwe at left back when you have bornwell silengo on the bench….i mean, what the hell is that?

  2. The loss just shows the inadequacies wada bench has.they had all the best players but they didn’t know how to use them period. Zambians condemned Kalu when he said we are not yet ready for an local coach.

  3. I have supported Wada Wada on many occasions having seen that he was not aptly supported by FAZ but this time around I could not raise my voice from the begining because I saw leakages in team selection Honestly speaking there are some players I, for one ,have been tracking and know for sure that they can inject a sense of depth and experience into the team; Please forget their shortcomings in their charecters as these can dealt with by the Fathers in the team. For me these are the players I feel should be included if we are to yield any results in any competetive game, the list is as bellow:
    1. James Chamanga; We need him at this time, remember how Roger Milla inspired Cameroun to winning ways.
2.Stophilla Sunzu; He is an experienced defender we have as at now who enjoys game time.
3.Evans Kangwa; I have been watching the Boy He has mature movements and passes than most of the young Boys, they need to learn from him.
    4. Emmanuel Mbola; I have also been watching him with his team hopoel Ranana, the Boy has matured and better than some of the limping defenders.
    5. Rainford Kalaba; despite his indisciplined behaviour which I know can be cured, His movements on the ball are unmatched and can be used as a major game changer.
    6. Donashano Malama; What prompted the Morrocan club Olympique Club de Khouribga to buy him and he has been playing in almost all the games? The player is an asset in midfield we saw how He perfomed at CHAN.
    7. Kabaso Chongo; He is well exposed and very experienced, With defense I would candidly say most of it has to do with experience.
    8. Nathan Sinkala; He is gifted in this area and Chipolopolo need Him together with his experience.
9.Winston Kalengo; The technical bench can gauge how fit He is but I know the player like Chamanga can produce a miracle on his day.

Furthermore, South Africa is a very tactically and technically disciplined team and at all times they have beaten us we were very tactically and technically cripled. Zambia has a plethora of talent in soccer but our technical aptittude leaves much to be desired that is why our players don’t survive in Europe. We need to overhaul our technical team any Coach needs a stronger backbone as in his technical team.
Our Team selection is not based on merit(Consideration of a player’s abilities with regards to the opponent). for example The Coach on Sunday might have gumbled with the Young and speedy Charles Zulu to stretch the defense of Bafana Bafana and interpolate him with either Augustine Mulenga or Ernest Mbewe. We need to invest in our players!

    • I agree with your assessment except on Chamanga. Iyi think his time has passed and he will have his time once he hangs up his boots as a coach or something. Missing from your list is also Kennedy Mweene, who still has much to offer and we are yet to see his replacement.

      • Yes I agree positive thinking Mweene is a must I don’t know how I omitted his name but I know most people don’t agree on Chamanga but I feel the guy’s position and movements in the pitch is quiet remarkable since most of our young strikers luck those traits I think we need some one to inspire them and atleast teach them where the technical and tactical aspects of the game is concerned. I have watch some of his games in the Chinese league. The proble is most Coaches don’t consider the Chinese league and that is a problem!

  4. The defence cost us the game.
Solomon sakala is not mature for position two,but good on midfield 5 or4.
The whole back 5 could be highly scrunised. Recall Mbola malama and sunzu.
All those players were good but lacked tactical and techenical approach,we need a tactical captain like Mweene.

  5. fire this guy wada z not serious we are sick and tired of looseing under this man 3times at home we cant continue with this kind of coach look at his team selection surely Rodrick kabwe z not a defender atleast not at the cost of Mbola never!Evans kangwa in the russian top flight only Wada can ignore that talent,Nathan Sinkala mwe bantu..wat has bewitched this foolish Wada!! This the national team not a club you choose playets on merit!
