Numba not moved by fans jeering young Chipolopolo

As Zambia U20 National team were taking on Malawi at the Arthur Davies stadium with about 10 minutes left on the clock Zambian fans started cheering the opponents and booing their own much to the joy of the Young Flames of Malawi.

Coach Numba Mumamba was not however moved by the behaviour but was concerned with its effect on the boys.

” I have been in football for a very long time and am used to such. Fans always want a team to win but it is not always like that. If you look at our team, We have the youngest team at the tournament and we have done well,” Numba said

” The behaviour can get to the boys because e they are young. The boys need to be encouraged and cheered,” he added.

Zambia was held by the Young Flames of Malawi to through their chances of qualifying to the semi-finals  and possibly defending the trophy in real doubt.

The next game for the Young Chipolopolo is on Monday against Swaziland, A match Zambia need to win by all means to atleast gives themselves a lifeline in the competition.

  1. This team is a genuine under 20 side. Those who were in Korea 2017 mostly had completed high school in 2012 and some of them have been in the ZSL For the last 5 years…..

  2. The objective of participating at tournament was clear. The coach made it apoint not an offend to antagonise people of zambia. They are building an under 20 team that will compete in next year qualifiers. Lets not put so much pressure on these young starts what they all need is support. We are all aware that since the departure of king kalu there is no system or structures that support the development of junior football. When kamanga and his collegues were sworn in they relaxed to an extend of destroying all structures. As it stands now the standards of zambia football it is now in dilapidated and disarray state. The invasion of foreigners in our league it also has a negative effect. Lets take look and campare the class of 2017 and the current team.. The class of 2017 was made of players from top flight league and the current under 20 they only have three..A quota system should be introduced to protect young local talent. Faz should also introduce a system that will force clubs to have under 20 in their team. Every club should register at least five under 20 players for 2018 season. This should apply upto first division and divisions should registar under 17 boys..

  3. Tony you are very right. To build the kalabas, the kalus of tomorror needs exposure. The objective of participating in such gamesis to identify talents and nature them. The are youngsters full of expectations.Look at our own Charly Musonda at Chealse, the coach knows that the boy is massive talent but doesnt want to rush him to play him regulary but to introduce him probably and simply because he needs to delop him in other ereas.Lets support these kids, not what happened. There predeccessor under under 20 left some printing beautiful to read but remember they were exposed massively. This is not the end of the road.

  4. Saw the comments earlier by @Leo that the team has no talent and the players selected were just names. When we have played this tournament away from home we have never failed to come out of group

  6. You have started again! Remember the insults you heaped upon Daka when He was first called for duty the National Team, How you insulted Harve Renard, Janza and then Lwandamina. At the under 20 level Chambeshi was not also spared called names until He lifted the U20 AFCON then stripped off the core until He reached the U20 W/Cup quarter finals.
My Father once told me that, “the best starts from nothing and then matures to the excellence”. This is one principal we miss as Zambians in all spheres of Life, We need to be patient, believe that We can do it and believe in our own! That is why Africa has never lifted the World Cup as We believe only White people can make us the best. Its time We realized our prowess and potential.
To me what Mumamba is doing is excellent to give muscle and confidence to the under !7 and groom them to be the best.

  8. this man has never built a team. His experience starts and ends at useless zanaco which he just inherited. What was wrong with chambeshi to built amother dream team.

    • Who won the COSAFA U17? I do not criticize emotionally I use logic which I feel any mature soccer loving Zambian should use as we are not empty vessels or tins.

  9. Sometimes its called DNA and GENETICS. Zambians are not at the world cup because the DNA of southern africa is not that of west or north africans when it comes to speed and strength.that is why its hard for zambia to build a future team because its not within the Genetics. sad truth

    For e.g
Asians have a good gene for table tennis so there for no matter how hard africans try we can never build future team to match them…

  10. Jealousy is what kills us in Africa. We cannot recognise that Beston had worked hard to make up a team. Changing the team 100% is a bad choice! Reinforce a winning team and you will have continuity. Did all players of Chambeshi graduate? The answer is NO! You have those who where on the bench, those who were 17 to 18! You should have worked with them and maintained the killer instinct we had in the the team! Sadly, someone wants to make a name and have made it worse for the nation! We just never learn!

  11. kkkkkk kkkkkk instead of making a name he has just killed a name. chambeshi would have made a good u20 from his 2016 reserve side. Faz policies very useless. then Numba was suppose to remain at U17 for two yrs so that his boys grow to U20 and graduate properly with them. not graduating within 6months as if they are Broiller chickens.

  12. Gentlemen….. of the jury! There is nothing wrong with the team! For Gods sake spare our children, they are growing up. They are at the level Daka & co. were 2 years ago; they endured insults like confetti at a wedding. Pliz also spare Numba and Kamanga.
