We have not signed Nyirenda-Baroka CEO

-Livingstone, Zambia: Premiere Soccer league (PSL) outfit Baroka FC have repudiated reports in the local and foreign media outlets that the club signed a deal with Chipolopolo coach Wedson Nyirenda, whose future with the Zambia national team can be envisaged as bleak.

The South African top-flight side, subsequent from surviving relegation, have according to the hierarchy been inundated with applications from several suitors for the coaching job and it has been widely reported that Nyirenda was the favourite to win the race.

Unlike the reports, Baroka Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Morgan Mammila has denied that the club signed a contract with Coach Nyirenda, in an a phone and exclusive interview with this publication.

Mammila could not disclose if at all it was true the man famously known as Wada is among the applicants or carries the favourite tag to land the job. He said they have thus far not interviewed any of the coaches who have pitched their CVs.

Mammila further revealed that the club will next month in June name the successor of Doctor Khumalo, who was entrusted with the role of drilling Baroka FC on a caretaker basis.

“We have not signed any contract with the coach [Wedson Nyirenda],” said Baroka CEO Morgan Mammila.

“I have lot of list of coaches applications. It is fair not to disclose their names now.
We will announce the coach next month.”

Meanwhile the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) yesterday dispelled an article in the Zambia Daily Mail, purporting that the FAZ President, Mr Andrew Kamanga will be among the delegates earmarked to travel to Spain to check on the facilities and course programs that Nyirenda is set to partake.

According to the press statement by FAZ Communications manager Desmond Katongo, the president does not have any role to play in the selection or monitoring of programs that Nyirenda will partake in Spain.

“It is instead, the role of the FAZ Technical Director to ensure that all FAZ coaches are provided with the best training programs and facilities,” reads excerpt of the statement from the local football governing body’s mouthpiece.
