New Chipolopolo coach gets easy performance based contract
New Chipolopolo coach Sven Vandenbroeck has been given a not so onerous target of qualifying the Chipolopolo to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
Minister of information Moses Mawere has said that Sven will be given a performance based contract that will require him to qualify the team to the Cameroon finals.
“One of the concerns we raised when we received their request for us to consider a new coach was for FAZ to assure us that the new coach would qualify the senior Chipolopolo to the Camer0on 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals,”said in an interview with ZNBC.
“We also guided them that the contract should be in line with qualifying the team to the Africa Cup; so depending on how the coach and technical bench perform, that will give us another opportunity to review his contract.
“What we expect is first of all to qualify the team and also build a strong team that wont just qualify but also go and compete in Cameroon and possibly give us the required results,” Mawere said.
Since 1990, Zambia has only failed to qualify to the Africa Cup of Nations two times on the 15 occasions it has been held.
The former Cameroon assistant coach is expected to be unveiled before the end of the week to replace Wedson Nyirenda who resigned his position as Zambia national team coach.
Zambia who are bottom of Group K play away against Namibia in September before hosting Guinea Bissau.
