New Chipolopolo boss to receive $10,000

THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has offered unheralded national team coach Sven Vandenbroeck a monthly salary of US$10,000 (about K100,000) exclusive of all taxes.

Government on Friday nodded the appointment of Vandenbroeck as Chipolopolo coach taking over from Wedson Nyirenda, who was also getting US$10,000 monthly salary.

According to a letter from Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development Joe Kapembwa addressed to FAZ general secretary obtained by the Sports Mail in Lusaka yesterday, Government has given FAZ a green light to employ the Belgian on a monthly salary of US$10,000.

  1. MULENGA PULU says:

This is very embarrasing for a nation to be paying coaches such peanuts and expecting decent resuilts

  2. Julio says:

If that’s what our budget can cutter then do be it. So long as the coach himself is content and willing to work for the said figure. The key will be signing a target based contract so he is motivated.

I hope and trust he has been the mandate 》> worldcup2022 qualification without doubt and as fans i will back him with up support and an inner circle idea on players and zambianfootball,my hope aswell is of we can unite the whole country

We have to keep moving my friend, for me good salary by Zambian standards. Where salaries are high taxes are high. Exclusive of tax he is okay. This country once made a mistake of stopping investment in infrastructure development and it has lagged behind like no mans business. If it was IT you would hire a hacker to take you somewhere.
This guy will bring back some guys with experience who have hunger and gel with the new talent. It’s up-to him…for example Ziyo Tembo and Cletus Chama showed some hunger at the Cosafa risking a few things to get the team moving. Build a Chipolopolo squad, an oiled team that enjoys playing football like children my friend. We will be playing fantastic football, he is going to become a hero.

You could have put that into infrastructure development.

Very nice indeed; publicising some ones pay in the public media. While at it, reveal the salary of FAZ general Secretary! You can even go further give us the figures for all club coaches in the ZPL. Motivating indeed doesnt it,?!!

  7. Anonymous says:

No confidentiality indeed. Revealing somebody’s salary in the media is not on. Well while we are at it, can we know the amounts earned by FAZ SG and his assistant! You can even go further as reveal the figures earned by our club coaches to see how they compare with the national coach.

  8. Sibs says:

I agree with Mulenga Pulu. $10K a month!! That’s peanuts. We should not be surprised if we get monkeys. The Coach needs to be motivated and our Government can do better. The money is there. This guy won’t go out of his way with this kind of money not that I’m encouraging him not to perform. If we knew what National team Coaches are paid out there we would feel embarrassed as a footballing Nation. Yes we can’t much some of the money being paid out there but we can do better this.
That’s why it will take us long even to qualify for the World Cup. Guys doing commentary and analysis for TV Stations at FIFA W.C 2018 like Super Sport are getting more money than we willing to pay our Coach. ATASE!!!

  9. Logic says:

With such a meagre salary, all you should expect him to win are just friendly games. Not even Cosafa. This is very embarrasing.

  10. Luapula Bize says:

He must be a mediocre coach to accept that pay from a ‘great’ african footballing nation. Bushe nishinga alefola eko afumine uyuwine???

  11. Pundit says:

who bewitched you guys…you think this new coach z poor like you??..how much was Renard being paid when he won afcon 2012??.do you know how much morroco z paying him today??.how many pipo working in gvt get paid 10,000 dollars?..if you can honestly answer these simple questions you wont blame gvt/faz or the Belgium born coach..how much does china pay ther coach were are they? Southafrica?..invest in your career like Renard at the moment he z the highest paid coach in africa!! Umusungu

    • Stephen says:

Thank you Pundit for sharing your positive views on the incoming coach and his expected remuneration. Many people who want to build their careers and become renown expert of what they do for a living,do not just confine themselves at the amount of money they will be paid. They see their future career beyond the little money they current make.As you said Renard is a good example. There was another coach who happen to coach Bafana Bafana prior to the 2010 worldcup. He was ridiculously paid so well, but if you ask anyone if he won anything meaningful for South Africa, the answer is no!!!
In fact with his tons of experiences he had and the big amount of money he was making as a Banana Bafana coach,he still couldn’t even outsmart our local coach , Patrick Phili.
I think it is wise to give a chance to a young man,he wants to make a name for himself, just like the way we wanted Renard’s assistant to take over the Chipolopolo coaching job.

  12. Pundit says:

some people think Ronaldo plays so passionatly becoz of money?? Kkk if yes how come at the world cup he still plays the way he does i gess they all get the same pay?? if this new coach z useless even when u pay him 100 000 dollars he wont give you the desired results..money z not the greatest motivator but self actuallization.

  13. Tony mash says:

The coach is happy about the offer.. And he has come to make his name and leave. Renard made his name with chipolopolo look where he is today.

  14. Anonymous says:

I think ten pin is alot of money

    Iwe Mulenga Pulu….u are back??

    • MULENGA PULU says:

      @Soccer Guru,

I have been back for some time now for the last 3 months I have been posting comments

I hope you have been fine.

  17. Dr. Society says:

Do not think big when you see a white man taking charge of affairs we have failed. 100 backs is more than 20 times civil servant salary, so its okey. After all he will only be with the team a week before a match. The rest of the months he will be paid like a teacher during holidays…kkk

  18. Dr. Society says:

The goodness with a foreign coah and muzungu for that matter, he will be concerned for results. So he might create a Zambian team and not the two province team we have started seeing with poor results. Limbi fyalabako serious ifintu not like ZNS recruitment list.kkkk. Failing even a home grown COSAFA.

  19. Jbs Simubernard says:

Nice move ba Faz this is the way to go coz he will not pick players from one or two clubs bcoz alikoching’apo club no, akalasenda ama players on merit, congratulations once again ba Faz if u not happy about this then hang your self

  20. Big Steve 4rm SA says:

Gents no matter how you want to cut it $10,000 / month even if exclusive of all tax is PEANUTS for a national team coach.

You can spin it by justifying that it is his stepping stone so he wont mind and be motivated…well yes maybe…but that does not remove the fact that $10,000 for a national team coach is peanuts. Lets call a spade a spade. He might see it as his entry point into the national team coaching arena, he might be a miracle like Renard was to us, yes all these things could happen but still $10,000 a month for a national team coach is peanuts. Lets not mask the fact.

  21. Jay says:

Stupid guys who says 10 pin is peanut go and help goverment with extra money if you can don’t just dream when have nothing to offer. Stupid.

    • Luapula Bize says:

Midiocricy will make you think/believe $10,000 is lots of money for a national team coach. Average mindsets are always toxic to any form of development. You need to pay decently to motivate anyone doing your job. Trying to justify poor pay won’t make us move forward as a footballing nation that has talent in abundance. South Africa couldn’t get the best out of their past highly paid coaches simply because talent was missing. All their best crop of players had retired at the time only leaving players that weren’t as good.

commanda..nomba mulemona kwati indalama yalafuma kwisa??? if thats what we can afford then thats it….cut your coat according to the size of your cloth mwana…

  23. Anonymous says:

This guy is a nonenity as of at now. 10 pin is therefore okay. We are also giving him a very big stage to showcase his skills. If he works hard, it wont be 10 pin for long. let him work !

  24. Pundit says:

Find a Coach Pay Him more from your own pocket!!..all of you saying 10pin z small infact faz ed gvt are looking for sponsors like you. We dont need to pay a coach 50pin to win Cosafa or qualify to afcon/world cup never! How can you move foward if u want to spend more for less??..which company does that haveing identified ther weaknesses and action plan..we have the skill all we need z jst a professional coach black or white thus why some of us we have no kind words for WadaWada

  25. How can u pay him more when he has not yet achieved for u?

  26. Discipline says:

I second you @pundit true that bro this guy is here to make his cv and us we need a coach with that desire hence good chemistry those who think otherwise are more than welcome to contribute so that faz can hire Mr Wenger

  27. Jbs Simubernard says:

mwebantu umwine umuntu alisumina 10 pin coz yali ati take it or leave it,now y ukulanda landa

  28. Anonymous says:

    best coach ever.#FORZAMBIA OUR TEAM

  29. Positive thinking says:

I don’t understand. The guy has agreed to 10 pin then why are people so touched about it? 10K today can turn into 5 times that amount tomorrow, based on how successful he is. Renard is making a lot more than the $15K a month he was earning when he coached Zambia at first. Let’s apprec and let’s wait and see what happens.

  30. henry says:

whilest stuart baxter of south africa gets $800,000 which is 10 million rand per month.
