Mutapa trims Zambia U17 squad to 24

Zambian U17 national team coach Oswald Mutapa has trimmed his provisional squad to 24 players ahead of the 2018 Cosafa U17 Championship to be played in Mauritius.

The 24 were named after undergoing MRI scanning in Lusaka.

Mutapa is expected to further trim his squad to 20 before the team leaves for the regional tournament.

Zambia return to Mauritius as defending champions of the Cosafa U17 championship having lifted the trophy in the same country last year.

Zambia is in Group B alongside South Africa, Lesotho and Mozambique.

Winners of the 2018 edition of the Cosafa championship in Mauritius will automatically qualify for the Tanzania 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

    The entire copperbelt province has contributed a single player to the U17 squad! This is strange. Copperbelt clubs have junior teams who normally play as curtain raisers to the main teams. I wonder if they were considered during the selection process! Selection is the area the expat coach should be helped to look into!!!! This final list reflects mainly the players at midlands academies; an unacceptable situation. Faz must probe this state of affairs.!!!!
