Mutapa names U17 squad for AUSC tournament

Zambia U17 national team coach Oswald Mutapa has called a 25 man squad for the Africa Union Supreme Council (AUSC) Region Five Games.

Mutapa has retained the majority of the team that played at the Cosafa U17 tournament played in Mauritius in July led by defender Morgan Botha of Sporting Lusaka.

He assembled the squad from scratch but was ineligible to coach at the regional tournament as he was still serving a ban and the team was coached by Tenant Chilumba.

Zambia were booted out of the tournament after a 2 – 1 loss to South Africa.

Mutapa will now have a chance to work with his squad in Botswana in a tournament Zambia has predominantly done well.

The tournament will be played December 7th to 16th.

The idea of keeping the boys together is welcome and will bear desired fruits. This its not an experiment. We did it before just after the boys failed to qualify for afcon under 17 tournament. The boys went on to qualify two years later at under 20 level. If we disband these young stars there will be another crisis at under twenty level.

This means that Super league clubs have no under 17 teams??? Shocking. Anyway most of these clubs rely on foreigners
