Musakanya eyes away win over Botswana
Red Arrows Football club skipper and Chipolopolo midfielder Bruce Musakanya who is part of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) squad that is preparing for the Botswana clash on 26 July says the team is targeting an away win against the Zebras.
Musakanya told the ZamFoot Crew in an interview during a morning training session that the team wants to win away so as to have an easy task at home on just putting the tie to bed.
“As a team, we want to be victorious as we go away so that we come and finish it up at home,” Musakanya said.
Musakanya who was part of the COSAFA winning squad as however acknowledged that the match against the Zebras will not be an easy encounter having seen how they two teams played in the final of the regional showpiece.
“It won’t be an easy game knowing that we beat them in the COSAFA, so I think they have planned adequately for us and we also have to put in our level best to be victorious,” Musakanya told the ZamFoot crew.
The Zebras announced the provisional squad and entered residential camp on Monday with new players roped in by the Botswana caretaker coach Mogomotsi Mpote.
However, Musakanya feels the changes made by the Zebras will not change the approach of the team heading into the first leg on July 26 in Francistown.
“It doesn’t change our approach, we need to take it as it comes, even if they have made changes,” said Musakanya.
“We don’t know the changes they have made, we just need to do our level best,” he added.
The rejuvenated playmaker said despite stiff competition in the camp he is targeting to make the final squad for the CHAN tournament having missed the last edition in Morocco.
“The competition in the team is very high, knowing that in every team they pick the best players,” Musakanya said.
Musakanya was instrumental for Red Arrows in the 2019 FAZ/MTN Transitional Super League scoring seven goals for the Zambia Airforce sponsored side and attracted the attention of National team selectors to consequently earn a call up to the Chipolopolo COSAFA winning side last month.
Zambia will play Botswana on July 26 in Francistown before hosting the Zebras in Lusaka on August 3.
