Munyao, Chepeshi, Mkandawire make 2016 Cosafa Castle Cup squad
Zambia national football team coach George Lwandamina has named a provisional squad of 22 players for the 2016 Cosafa Castle Cup competition which takes place in Namibia from 11th to 25th June.
Lwandamina has mainly stuck with the team that reached the quarter finals at the Rwanda 2016 CHAN tournament earlier in the year but has omitted veterans Christopher Katongo and Isaac Chansa from the squad.
Festus Mbewe and Paul Katema who missed the CHAN tournament after they went for military training will replace the two.
Young full backs Boyd Mkandawire and Benedict Chepeshi have bounced back to the squad at the expense of Stephen Kabamba and Solomon Sakala while Cosafa 2013 goalkeeper of the tournament Danny Munyao also returns to the team after missing the CHAN tournament to replace Lawrence Mulenga who has been confined to the bench at Kabwe Warriors.
Young speedy Zanaco winger Charles Zulu has also reclaimed his spot in the team with Zesco’s old guard Mwape Mwelwa falling off the list.
At last year’s tournament former Chipolopolo coach Honour Janza named seven foreign based players in his team that competed at the Cosafa tournament which saw Zambia lose at the quarter final stage.
Team Manager Stanley Kaseko who announced the team said the players were expected to arrive in Ndola on April 24.
Kaseko said the training program was part of the national team’s preparations ahead of the Cosafa Castle Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Guinea Bissau in June.
