Mulenga optimistic of making Chipolopolo final Squad
FOREST Rangers striker Welcome Mulenga is bubbly about making the final Zambia National team squad that is partaking in the four nations tournament, from 21 to 24 March at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
South Africa, Zimbabwe and Angola are the invited guests to the Nations tournament organized by the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ).
The 19-year old forward, who is on-loan from Zesco Vic-Falls to Forest Rangers, has been handed a surprisingly maiden call-up to the Chipolopolo provisional squad.
The 30-man squad that was announced by Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Communications manager Desmond Katongo today, goes into residential camp on Sunday March 11.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with ZamFoot, the animated Mulenga pontificated that he was not taking the bayonet to a gunfight, instead he will put in the very best against experienced strikers like Brian Mwila and Lazarus Kambole from Buildcon and Zesco United respectively–and Power Dynamos’ Alex Ngo’nga.
Mulenga, who is yet to play a competitive game with Forest rangers, has heaped credit to his parent club Zesco Vic-Falls, were he scored 16 goals in the FAZ Division One Zone Four, last season.
“It’s a great felling and I am very much confident that I will make the final squad, even though the competition for places is very tough. I will do my best, God will do the rest,” he said.
“In the previous season with Zesco Vic-Falls, I did well. I think this is what has earned me the National team call-up.”
