Mozambique result was a total embarrassment, It shouldn’t repeat in future, warns Minister

Sports Minister Moses Mawere has warned Chipolopolo Boys technical bench led by Wedson ‘Wada Wada’ Nyirenda that it’s time to start delivering ‘good results’.

And Mawere has warned that a result like the 1-0 defeat to Mozambique ‘should never repeat in future.’

“We don’t want to see results like the ones we saw in Ndola when we played Mozambique. That was a total embarrassment and it should not repeat in future,” Mawere warned

Wada Wada has come under pressure after Zambia’s home defeat to Mozambique in the first match of the Cameroon 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier.

They [technical bench] should not bury their heads in the sand. Government is spending a lot of money on the senior national team and what we want to see are good results,” Mawere said

The former Zesco United trainer is yet to register a win a competitive match since he was appointed last year.

Zambia also lost at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium last year to Nigeria in a World Cup qualifier and the 2012 African Cup of Nations winners are 5 points behind the Super Eagles for the race to Russia.

On the FIFA Rankings, Zambia is placed 99 and 25 in the World and Africa respectively, it is the worst.

“They [technical bench] should not bury their heads in the sand. Government is spending a lot of money on the senior national team and what we want to see are good results,” Mawere said

Zambia face Botswana this weekend in the quarter finals of the Cosafa Cup.

  1. Maybe Mozambique has steped up? In all honesty they won fair and square playing away wich is difficult for any team, so rather than say we should not let that score happen again we should say we need to prepare the boys well to win future games. This is football and irs unpredictable. Zambia underestimated Mozambique and payed the price. No team in modern football is small and should be approached with caution.

  2. This man needs to just shut up! (Sorry for the language) but you are not in the business of threatening coaches. You so called leaders should be creating policy that allows for growth and coordinating action with FAZ. When they wanted to hire a coach, you so called leaders followed Lungus lead atti we don’t need a foreign coach and this was after Zambia lost to Nigeria. This is too foolish to even watch, after you admit your mustake; then come talk to the coach about him failing.

  3. Mr. Minister this is bound to happen AGAIN as long as the Coach at the realm continues. Its clear he can’t carry this team. He lacks the technical and tactical know how of the modern game.

He need an experienced and exposed Coach who he can learn from. At the moment he needs to be assistant Coach not the man in charge. Simple.

  4. jst hire a coach frm europe this coach we ar nt going anywhre he doesnt know to coaching ba lungu pliz pliz leteni coach umbi mukwai twapapata saana nimwe mwakenye

  5. I even wonder if we will qualify to AFCON 2019 under this coach, and if we do, we will come back in the first round. Mr. Minister you are right. This team will take us nowhere

  6. Plz try to understand to our calls ,we are not pleased with the results these guys are giving us ,it time for change period
