Missing AFCON is painful- Patson Daka
Zambia national team striker Patson Daka has described missing out on the 2019 Africa Cup of nations as painful. The Copper Bullets finished bottom of their group during qualifiers with Guinea Bissau and Namibia qualifying ahead of them.
The Redbull Salzburg striker believes this may, however, be a source of motivation for the players to work extra hard to make sure they qualify to future tournaments.
“It’s very painful not for me only as a player but also for the fans. Zambia is a regular at the tournament so it’s a big disappointment but it is also a motivation to work extra hard. We are not guaranteed a place but we need to use this pain to work hard for future AFCON tournaments,” He told the ZamFoot Crew in an interview.
Daka is part of the squad summoned to travel to Morocco for the three friendly matches against Morocco, Cameroon, and the Gambia. Daka believes the three matches are very important and will go a long way to help players keep in shape as they prepare for future assignments.
“It’s very important for me personally as an individual and for the team because we have not qualified for AFCON. It’s a good platform for us to stay in shape and prepare for future assignments. It does not mean if we don’t qualify for AFCON then should not work on what we need to work on. There is alit to ve done, We have to work on areas we need to work on as a team,” He said.
Zambia will play reigning African champions Cameroon on June 9 in Madrid with another match set for June 12 against the Gambia in Casablanca. The team will conclude its assignment with a match against the Herve Renard tutored Morocco on June 16.
