Meet Nakambala Leopards rising star Alex Bulaya
Born on 13th April 1998, Alex Bulaya is one of the promising prospects at Zambian Super League outfit Nakambala Leopards. In 2013, he was on the books of Kasama Forest before trekking south to join Leopards.
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder made his debut for Nakambala Leopards in 2018 against Nchanga Rangers in a league game played at Nakambala stadium. Bulaya was on the winning side, Nakambala won 1-nil.
“My memorable game is the one we played against Nchanga Rangers, I was excited because I was making my debut and we won 1-0,” said Bulaya.
Bulaya described the 2018 season as awesome despite the team losing ground during the course of the season, “Last season was awesome, we started well but lost concentration as the games kept coming,” recalls Bulaya.
He revealed to the ZamFoot crew in an exclusive interview that, he looks up to world football icon, Argentina and Barcelona genius Lionel Messi for inspiration.
Bulaya also revealed that his dream is to play at the top level in Europe in the near future. His childhood dream team has been Barcelona Football Club.
The versatile midfielder can play in attacking midfield as well as in a striking role upfront. He was first called to the U20 National team in 2017, though he did not make the final team.
In 2018, after an impressive showing with Nakambala he was among the 53 players that coach Charles Bwale called for the preliminary camp for the Niger 2019 Africa Cup qualifying campaign.
The talented midfielder targets to play as many games as possible for the Sugar Boys of Nakambala this season, “I want to play as many games as possible,” Bulaya said. He managed to feature five times for the Mazabuka based side last season.
Away from football, Alex enjoys playing FIFA with his friends on weekends to loosen up.
As the 2019 season kicked off last Saturday, Nakambala recorded a win 1-nil win over Kitwe United in Mazabuka.
Bulaya has promised the Nakambala fans that the team will do better this season. He has since called upon his fans to remain confident.
“They should just keep calm, we are going to do our best,” said Bulaya.
All the best Alex Bulaya and Nakambala Leopards!
