Lusaka Tigers to face disciplinary action

Lusaka Tigers football club may face disciplinary action for pitch invasions in a game that saw them draw 1 – 1 against log leaders Nkana FC.

And the Lusaka Tigers management has released a statement condemning the actions by their fans during the match played at Independence stadium on Sunday 10th April 2016.

“The behavior was uncalled for and was never intended when we scored. We know and understand that invading a pitch is a punishable offence and as such security will be beefed up in all the upcoming games owing to the massive turn out that our home games have been attracting,” Club vice chairman Brian Bwalya said.

“We wish to assure our fans, football lovers, our opponents and stakeholders that Independence stadium is safe and conducive to watch and play football from.”

Tigers fans overpowered security by jumping over the perimeter fence and ran onto the pitch to celebrate a stoppage time equalizer that Nkana striker headed into his own goal from a Chibesa Chanda’s free kick.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) through its General Secretary Katongo Kabungo stated that the association will be reviewing video footage on the matter.

Punishment for such offences could even go as far as banning the club from hosting games at their home venue.
