Lumwana pound Zesco as Kapumbu ends match in goal

Zesco United missed a chance to move into third position when they were humiliated at home by visiting Lumwana Radiants who beat them 3-0 in a dramatic match that saw left back Fackson Kapumbu finish the match in goal.

With one eye on the CAF Confederations Cup tie against SuperSport United this weekend, Zescl United coach Zlatko Krmpotic featured a weakened side making up to five changes to the team that pulled off a draw in South Africa in first leg of the CAF Confederations Cup quarter final match.

Chisenga Lukwembe put Lumwana ahead in the 45th minute to stun the home side.

Krmpotic rang the changes after the restart bringing in Lazarous Kambole for Dave Daka and Jesse Were for Davies Kasirye.

But there was nothing to stop the boys from the mine as Mushili Chanda easily beat Zesco United goalkeeper Dieudonne Ntibahezwa in the 73rd minute for Lumwana’s second.

With Enock Sabamukuma having already replaced Mwape Mwelwa, Ntibahezwa went down injured and had to be rushed to the hospital leaving Zesco with no option but to turn to Chipolopolo full back Fackson Kapumbu to cover in goal with 15 minutes to play as they had already made three changes.

Radiants showed no mercy and finished off their hosts with an injury time goal to seal the win.

The Zeddy Saileti coached side now moves into 9th position on 42 points while Zesco remain 6 points behind leaders Green Buffaloes with two games in hand.

  1. IN terms of forcefulness and possession play, this is not the ZESCO of the 2015 and 2016 seasons that we knew. Balipwa ba ZESCO! Remember the 3 – 0 bashing at the hands of LIBOLO? ZESCO can no longer string meaningful passes any more; they loose possession easily and have now resorted to playing long balls that usually land nowhere!

  2. This Zlatko coach has nothing to offer. He could have been sacked already had been Zambian. Zesco is nowhere near the same since the departure of Chicken George to Tanzania.

    • Fackson Kapumbu was a goal keeper in the last 15 minutes because the goal keeper was injured and rushed to hospital at the time Zesco had exhausted the 3 substitutions having brought in Were, Kambole and Sabamukuma in the second half.

  3. I’ve always maintained that this Krympotic guy is not a good coach. I can’t see anything he has done at Zesco apart from what Chicken George left behind. Zesco management should learn to give coaches contracts that can easily be terminated but in Krympotic’s
case its difficult to get rid of him as they will part away with a huge sum of money should they fire him, my gut feeling is they would rather he finishes his 2 year contract as they look for his replacement
