Konkola Blades, Kabwe Youth through to Barclays Cup Quarter Finals
Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy and Konkola Blades progressed to the quarter-finals of the Barclays Cup 2016 after beating Zesco Victoria Falls and Nampundwe respectively in the four team preliminary round on Sunday.
The two preliminary round matches were played as a double header at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.
Kabwe Youth will now face Nkana in the quarter-finals while Konkola Blades will renew their rivalry with Zesco United at the same stage.
After a goalless first half Nicodemus Kabungo opened the scoring in the 47th minute before adding a second in the 74th minute.
And Konkola Blades had to come from a goal to draw 1-1 and force the match with Nampundwe into post match penalties in the second match of the double header.
Tenson Mumba gave Nampundwe the lead on 57 minutes and looked like they would hold on till the final whistle only for Kilo Mwepu to equalise six minutes from time to force the match into penalties.
Konkola Blades converted all their five penalties through Dickson Chapi, Isaac Ngoma, Bob Chansa, Joseph Kanema and Stanley Kabala.
Tenson Mumba missed his spot kick while Benson Zuma, Victor Kubikisha, Chilufya Kashiba scored for Nampundwe.
FAZ president Andrew Kamanga and FAZ General Secretary Ponga Liwewe were among the fans who watched the double header in the company of Barclays Bank officials.
The quarter-finals will be played during the weekend of 17 to 18 September at Nkoloma Stadium.[Fazfootball]
