Kawri gives insight of what can be expected if he landed the Chipolopolo top job
Former Zambia National Team assistant coach Irfan Kawri has given an insight of what can be expected if he was to land the Chipolopolo top job.
In an interview with Zambianfootball.co.zm from his base in Bolton, United Kingdom Kawri said he would focus on making things better both on and off the pitch.
“I would do as much as I can that is in my control to make things better on and off the pitch. Coaching sessions, Training schedules, Camping programmes and the criteria for selection of players. Organisation and preparation is key. For example you cannot do a training session with maximum physical input from the players less than 24 hours before a key Africa cup of nations qualifying game which I experienced when I was assistant. I would want the right people around me in some way shape or form,” He said.
In his short stint with the Copper Bullets he impressed most senior players with his training methods.
Kawri is of the idea that a number 2012 AFCON winning players still have a key role to play in the National Team set up. The Clitheroe coach who also doubles up as Queens park rangers opposition analyst and scout believes involving the likes of Christopher Katongo with junior Chipolopolo teams as coache’s can do Zambia alot of good.
“I think the key players at this time are Kennedy Mweene, Stupila Sunzu, Mwepu and Patson Daka which is a good spine. It’s not just about talent good leaders in a dressing room are priceless. That’s why people like Rainford and Kennedy are important. I think we need to involve players/former players around all the national team set ups (u17 u20 u23 senior team) from the class of 2012 like Christopher Katongo, Isaac Chansa and Noah Chivuta who won the AFCON as there experience is vital and can be good role models,” He said.
