Katongo only Zambian in 2016 CHAN team of the tournament
With pre-tournament favorites Congo DR winning the 2016 CHAN tournament hosted by Rwanda, CAF on Monday released the team of tournament with striker Christopher Katongo the only Zambian on the list albeit only being among the substitutes.
Congo DR dominated the list of awards sweeping all but one of the awards including; Best Player (Mechack Elia – DR Congo), Top scorer- 4 goals and two assist (Mechack Elia – DR Congo), Goal of the Tournament (N’Guessan Serge Côte d’Ivoire), Fair Play Trophy (DR Congo).
Given Singuluma will be glad that his record five goals has remained untouched after the tournament Elia the top scorer only managed four goals.
Despite having only been called back from forced retirement, the Katongo the veteran striker who captained Zambia at the tournament did enough to be counted amongst the tournaments best ahead of the younger generation of players who were part of the Chipolopolo squad.
