Kalu’s request feasible.. Candidates to undergo FAZ integrity checks – Kashala
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) General Secretary Adrian Kashala says the request by outgoing CAF Executive Committee member Kalusha Bwalya to select a candidate for upcoming CAF Executive Committee elections via a secret vote by the FAZ Executive Committee sounds feasible and that FAZ will abide by CAF Statutes when nominating a candidate for the said elections.
Kashala added that the request by Kalusha will open up a chance for others who are interested to throw in their applications and that all applicants will be subjected to FAZ integrity checks. The FAZ GS urged Kalusha to submit his request in writing for consideration.
Kashala was talking to Prime TV News as monitored by the ZamFoot Crew.
The 1988 African Footballer of the year on Saturday Morning during an interview with the local press advised the FAZ to call an Executive Committee meeting in order to decide who will stand for Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee (South Zone) which he and current FAZ President Andrew Kamanga are both vying for.
” If we have to follow the statues of CAF and FIFA about transparency then the easiest would for FAZ to call a meeting . When one is aspiring for a position then we should call an executive committee meeting . We should not even do the usual formalities of seven days but just call it even this afternoon or tomorrow or Monday and invite me to come to that meeting and give us both (Kalusha and Andrew Kamanga) five minutes to speak about what we have done and what we will do. Afterwards the seven members can vote for their preferred candidate and the winner from that simple Democratic process can be backed by the Executive Committee,” Kalusha said.
The CAF Executive Committee Member of the South Zone (Cosafa Region) represents 14 member associations namely Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Kalusha who was first elected to the CAF Executive Committee in 2011 has been at CAF for eight years as he retained his position in 2015 after going unopposed.
