Kaindu returns home
- Zanaco Football Club has made an addition to their Technical bench by recruiting the former Power Dyanamos Coach Kelvin Kaindu.
Kaindu who was unveiled on Wednesday did not hide his excitement on his return to Sunset Stadium.
“Its an honor for me to come back at Zanaco,” the former Zanaco winger said.
“This is my second home. And most of the silverware I have in my home I have won them with Zanaco both as a player and coach,” he added
Kaindu earned his legendary status at Sunset Stadium after being part of the team which broke the monopoly by the Copperbelt teams of winning the league.
Alongside the likes of the late Nsofwa Chaswe, Edward ‘Bubble’ Kangwa, Kabamba Kalande, Numba Mumanga and goalkeeper Kalumba Mpunga, Kaindu helped Zanaco to their first league title in 2002.
That side become to be known as ‘Zambia B’ after dominating the local scene.
They claimed four league titles in five years between 2002 and 2007, a record which has only been bettered by the current Zesco United side which has won five league titles in the last six years.
While the likes Kabamba retired, Kaindu and Mumanga went on to play alongside the new generation at Sunset Stadium.
He continued to set up goals for young Ignitius Lwipa and Winstone Kalengo upfront as they won the league titles in 2005 and 2006.
Former international Kennedy Nkhetani, Micheal Bwalya, Martin Daka and later on Chisamba Lungu all featured with Kaindu.
After retiring, he was roped in as an assistant coach before he trekked to Zimbabwe where he had a successful coaching career.
“Looking forward to add on the little knowledge I have aquired, hopefully we will still maintain our position of attaining more and more success so my wish and prayer is to have an environment is enjoyable for everyone,” Kaindu said.
From Zimbabwe, Kaindu joined Kitwe giants Power Dynamos but his spell in Kitwe was unsuccessful.
His role at Sunset Stadium is mainly strikers coach.
A physical trainer in the name of Thomson Matenda has also been included to the technical bench.
Matenda was actively involved with Costa Dol Sol and Dynamo FC of Mozambique and Zimbabwe respectively.
Mumanga continues as head coach with Robin Musaka and former Zambia international midfielder Dabid Chilufya as assistants.
Kalumba is the goalkeeping coach.
Zanaco, who last won the league title in 2016 have also beefed up their squad with the signing of Kebson Kamanga, Ziyo Tembo and Nsofwa.
The team from Lusaka will present Zambia in the CAF Confederations Cup next season.
