Heroes double header ends in stalemate

Ernest Mbewe’s second half strike was cancelled out by Mwila Phiri’s equaliser as Zanaco survived a late scare from impressive Green Eagles.

The champions failed to live up to their tag and they were being bullied in possession and play by the visitors.

Eagles were creating chances from the start but were being let down by their poor finishing with Venecious Mapande and Phiri toying around with the make-shift central defence of Ziyo Tembo and Didi Kitumbo.

Numba Mumamba was forced to make a change in midfield around the half hour mark to try and stabilize his ship when he brought in Isaac Chansa for Zimiseleni Moyo.

Augustine Mulenga who was looking dangerous with his trickery and pace gave Zanaco the opening when he made a run in-field from the left to find Enerst Mbewe who finished with a fine shot in the box after his in shot was blocked.

Phiri then benefited from the calmness of Mapande who held on to the ball well to allow him get into space and shoot past Nsabata Toaster in goal.

The result leaves Zanaco in 7th position, 7 points adrift of leaders Zesco United who are on 38 points but have played two more games.

And in the late kickoff at the same venue, Chris Mugalu earned Lusaka Dynamos a point against Nkwazi.

Chipolopolo striker Justin Shonga gave the Zambia Police outfit the lead.

But for a third successive game, Mugalu was it again with an equaliser which was his 13th goal of the season.
