Goal and penalty miss for Mulenga as Ghampani stars for SuperSport
SuperSport United new signing Ghampani Lungu made his full debut for Matsatsantsa, who started their MTN8 defence on a high with a victory over a confident Orlando Pirates side in Orlando which had Justin Shonga and Augustine Mulenga in the team.
There were talking points on each side with Mulenga scoring the opener for Pirates before missing an extra-time penalty while Lungu put up an excellent performance as a make-shift right back. The 20 year old had to fill in for Grant Kekana who failed a late fitness test.
Mulenga was lively playing just behind Shonga in attack and gave Pirates the lead in the 15th minute with a shot in the box after a good inter-change of passes with Mnatambo.
Matsatsantsa pulled one back in the 34th minute before taking the lead in the 48th minute but Gladwin Shitolo leveled in the 60th minute.
The match went into extra time after the two teams ended the 90 minutes level.
The Bucs had the chance to take the tie when they were awarded a penalty in the second half of extra time but Mulenga saw his shot saved by Ronwen William.
However, the 28 year old showed the character of a good striker when he picked himself up to score one of the penalties despite his team losing the shoot out 4 – 3.
Shonga played 82 minutes.
The result saw SuperSport progress to the semi-finals of the tournament.
