Glo CAF Awards: Zesco miss out on club of the year award
Zesco United were on Thursday evening peeped to the 2016 CAF club of the year award by Kennedy Mweene’s Mamelodi Sundowns at the Glo CAF awards held in Nigeria.
The Ndola based CAF champions league semi finalists were in contention for the award together with TP Mazembe of Congo DR.
Under George Lwandamina, the team had an amazing run in he champions league and were a game away from reaching he finals of the champions league despite being ranked as outsiders at the start of the competition.
The winners of the of the award, Sundowns, beat Zesco in the semi finals of the 2016 CAF Champions League to proceed to the finals of the competition where they eventually beat Zamalek to lift the title.
Mazembe who have Jonas Sakuwaha, Given Singuluma, Rainford Kalaba and Nathan Sinkala are the 2016 CAF Confederations Cup Champions.
Other teams that received awards are: The Cranes of Uganda – National team of the year and Super Falcons – Women’s team of the year
