Foreign based and U23 will not be considered for COSAFA: Chiyangi

Zambia national team stand in coach Aggrey Chiyangi has revealed that Foreign based players will not be considered for the 2019 COSAFA tournament despite them being eligible to play.

Chiyangi told the ZamFoot Crew in an interview that COSAFA would be used as part of the preparation for the 2019 CHAN tournament and hence using foreign based players would disturb that.

“Our concentration is to play Cosafa and build on for CHAN so if we call those that are playing abroad we will disturbe our preparation for CHAN. We will just have to use players that we will use for CHAN,” He said.

The Zambia U23 national were suppose to play Congo Brazzaville on June 5th but the game gas been moved forward leaving the players free and will be available at the time of the COSAFA tournament.

“We have already submitted the provisional list hence we can’t call them to the tournament,” He said.

The COSAFA bound squad rounded up their three day camp with an emphatic six nil win over Sable Bulls. Austin Muwowo and Emmanuel Chabula scored a brace each while Bruce Musakanya and Tapson Kaseba scored a goal each.

Zambia will join the Cosafa Cup at the quarterfinal stage where they will clash with the winner of Group B, which includes Mozambique, 2015 winners Namibia, Malawi and Seychelles.

Now that the under23 game vs CB has been moved, great idea you do not include any from the under23, but this should only apply to those playing abroad
COSAFA need to change their focus. The COSAFA in future should be developmental thus only for players at the age of 23 and under in addition piling their trade in their home countries, no one playing outside their country should be involved or considered be it Africa. This way we will give chance to many talents

Let us think big for the sake of African football
