First Pirates start for Augustine Mulenga ends in defeat

Augustine Mulenga’s first start for his new club Orlando Pirates ended in defeat after the Buccaneers were beaten 1 – 0 by Cape Town City in the Nedbank Cup onWed evening.

Mulenga was named in attack alongside Chipolopolo team mate Justin Shonga and the two looked dangerous in attack.

But it was City’s Patosi who scored the only goal of the math in the 54th minute.

Mulenga lasted 59 minutes while Shonga played the entire game.

This was the second appearane for Pirates for the former Zanaco attacker after coming on a substitute in the last game.

Ealier in the day, Shonga received an award after his stunning goal against Chippa United in the ABSA Premiership was deservedly crowned the best Ford Goal of the Month of February after a social media poll by Orlando Pirates fans.

Pirates will be back in action on Saturday against Golden Arrows.

    He sucked kept on losing the ball and wrong passes was not surprised he was substituted

    The Pirates style of play was completely lost to him. He needs more time at the club to understand the coaches approach. What was most glaring to me was his total lack of any defensive skills. In todays game even strikers need some defensive capability for when possession is lost but every time he trekked back in and around his own box he totally exposed the fact he can not defend at all and for a guy of his strength I’m guessing the coach is looking for this in him.

    His confidence is good though, for a first start at such a big club he showed no signs of star struck mentality. Just like it took Shonga a couple of games to find his feet I think same thing for Augustine, with time he will be a star at the club.

      Big Steve, what position was Mulenga playing in this game? Just curious, because he usually plays as a winger at the National team, but the story above is not specific.
