The Zambia national soccer team has halted it’s downward spiral on the FIFA Coca-Cola World Rankings in time to beat the 100th position mark by going up 7 places to rank 92nd according to the latest rankings.
The Chipolopolo’s good form at the regional Cosafa tournament has paid immediate dividends.
Zambia were beaten at home by Mozambique in the Africa Cup qualifiers but they recovered with an away win in a friendly match against South Africa and have gone on to beat Botswana and South Africa in the past month.
When Zambia scored four goals against Tanzania, it was the first time the Chipolopolo were scoring 4 goals in a single compeitive match since they beat Somalia 4 – 0 at the Cecafa tournament in December 2013.
The seven step leap sees Zambia stand on 24th position in Africa.
Zambia’s opponents the final of the on-going Cosafa Tournament Zimbabwe are ranked 101 while Swaziland who Zambia play next week in a CHAN qualifier are in position 132.
Zambia need to play quality friendly matches that’s when our fifa ranking will improve
Rather than playing against minnows who at last beat us.
