WELCOME Mulenga was unwelcome the last time he tried his lucky with a Super division side, Konkola Mine Police. To resuscitate, he had to let himself be dragged down the lower tiers.
In the aftermath of the predicament in Chililabombwe, Mulenga hit the road back home in Livingstone and joined Livingstone Pirates, then GMH Academy, later Blue Arrows before Zesco Vic Falls in 2015–during their time in the FAZ Division-Two- South.
Same year, he was a member of the team-roster that aided the Zesco United feeder’s club to clinch promotion into the FAZ-Division-One-Zone-Four, for first time.
On their debut, in Division one, Vic Falls coached by Emmanuel Siwalle finished second on the log to AM Welding, who later changed their name to Buildcon. Welcome Mulenga would go on to engrave his name in the club history books, by becoming the top scorer with 11 goals.
This year, Mulenga was monstrous in the face of the goal and not at any moment did he show signs of forfeiting the club’s golden boot to anyone of his teammates. He extended his tally from eleven last year, to 16 goals.
He has now set his eyes on switching to any club in the top tier. Already grapevine is rife that some an unnamed top flight side is after his signature. However, when asked for confirmation Mulenga said that there was no concrete offer, thus far.
“I have been hearing about these rumours, but at the moment there is no concrete offer for my services,” he said yesterday at the Livingstone Sports Awards Gala, were he won the Golden boot and Player of the year Awards.
He says it has always been his dream to play in the MTN/FAZ Super league. A dream that is proximity to turn into reality, having proved that his is now well capable and ready of adapting to life in the Super league.
“I think I have done well in the past 2 seasons with Vic Falls. I have proved myself that I am ready to play in the Super league.
“It has always been my dream since childhood. And I am ready to turn it into reality,” he said.
The main highlights of his career are: winning the 2012 Coca Cola Championship with David Livingstone Secondary School and featuring in the 2016 Baclays Cup preliminary round with Zesco Vic Falls.
