FAZ president confers with EL, hands over KoPa Replicas

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president, Andrew Kamanga today paid a courtesy call on his Excellency, the Republican President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu at State House.

The FAZ President took advantage of the visit to share various initiatives that FAZ is implementing.

In an interview with Fazfootball.com, the FAZ chief said that the meeting was very significant for Association.
“We discussed various critical issues of our game, ranging from the performance of our national teams and other operational issues. The last one year was very successful for all our junior teams. We won U-20 AFCON and COSAFA U-17 for the first time as a country. We set a very high benchmark for ourselves.

The winners of these respective tournaments have all graduated to U-20 and U-23,” Kamanga said.
“We had to create a new U-17 and U-20 which we feel has a long life-span and will be eligible to play in various future competitions. The idea is to have a reservoir of players that should represent Zambia at different levels. We will soon introduce U-10 and U-14 teams.”

Kamanga further revealed to the FAZ Patron the recently signed MoU on Grassroot Football between FAZ and the Ministry of Youth and Sport and Education.
“The Association recently signed an MoU with the government on grassroots football whose aim is to develop football at grassroots level using schools as it were in the past. This is simply the reintroduction of primary and secondary school leagues at various levels,” he said.

At administration level, the FAZ chief said the Association is working on various administrative programs aimed at improving the operations of FAZ.
“We have embarked on a journey to open offices in all the provinces. This means that FAZ will be represented in all regions. This initiative will lead to smooth operations of the Association at all levels. We have also embarked on a mission to de-link the league from the Association,” he said.

Meanwhile, the FAZ president took advantage of the visit to hand over the KoPa replica jerseys to the FAZ Patron.
“The Republican President is a big supporter of the Zambian game and he has supported our administration in various ways. He has further been supportive of our initiatives. Today, was a special day to deliver the KoPa brand to him,” he said.

This MOU was conceived during the Kalu administration. I remember corresponding with one of the FAZ admins at the time concerning working with the government, specifically the ministry of education and reintroducing football leagues schools so that players should not choose between school and soccer.

Very glad that the idea has come to fruition. Not taking credit away from Kamanga, just pointing out that this initiative has been years in the making. This is good news.

Ba Zamfoot. No team of the week? Is the league on recess?

I really enjoy those. I noticed Lazarous Kambole was missing from a few, and really liked seeing the new faces on there. Love the reporting.

    Keep it up guys.

I remember when I was primary school we use to play in Zones and after qualifying you play a tournament and the winning team is given a trophy. I will never forget that day I scored a winning goal just coming from the bench in Kaole stadium. Anyway I will always be die hard soccer fanatic. Kudos to FAZ Boss.
