FAZ ELATED WITH KALUSHA FIFA BAN UPLIFTING

LIVNGSTONEFootball Association of Zambia (FAZ) Secretary general Adrian Kashala says the local football governing body is elated that FIFA has uplifted, partially, football legend Kalusha Bwalya’s 2 year ban from all the game’s related activities.

The FIFA appeals committee yesterday announced it has uplifted, partially, Bwalya’s 2 year ban from the time it was meted out – in April 2018 up to the time of uplifting. And the former FAZ president was ordered to pay a fine of CHF 10 000 within the period of 30 days.

Speaking at a press briefing today in Lusaka Kashala said that the news of Bwalya’s uplifting, partially has made everyone very happy and further welcomed him back to football activities.

However Kashala has called for an end to innuendos over who masterminded the former FAZ president’s sanctions. He said decisions by judicial bodies are made independently devoid of any forces behind.

Kashala has also commended Kalusha Bwalya’s attribute of being cooperative from the time he was slapped with FIFA sanctions, adding that it was a mark of leadership.

“I think that news is quite overwhelming and it has made the association very very happy that of of course that these sanctions have been uplifted,” he said.

“But again let me take this opportunity to enquire from you guys I know this bordered on name calling at the time the sanctions came in. We were told some people masterminded the sanctions, and on a lighter moment I don’t know also weather this has been the case to ensure that the ban is uplifted.

“But i think this is a demonstration that judicial decision are decisions made independently So, I think finger pointing is not the way to go. We should appreciate that FIFA have uplifted the sanctions.

“I think we should also appreciate that Mr. Kalusha Bwalya of late has been cooperative and compliant in as far as serving his ban.

“That’s the way it should be. We need to demonstrate such kind of leadership. He’s an icon and his reduction of sanctions is something that leaves all of us smiling. So we welcome him back to football activities.”

Last year Fifa banned Bwalya – then a Confederation of African Football (Caf) executive committee member – for accepting a gift an act which violates FIFA’s code of ethics.

This followed an investigation into his links to disgaced Qatari official Mohammed Bin Hammam.

The 55-year old Bwalya denied any wrongdoing and said he would fight tooth and nail for his name to be exonerated.
