FAZ Constitution to guide CAF Executive Committee nomination, Kalusha and Kamanga to undergo integrity checks

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has confirmed that the nomination of a candidate for the CAF Executive Committee member seat (South Zone) will be guided by the FAZ Constitution.

The revelation comes shortly after a meeting held by Sports Minister Honorable Moses Mawere with FAZ President Andrew Kamanga and 1988 African Footballer of the year, Kalusha Bwalya.

“We have deliberated. The meeting was very clear. We wanted them to talk to each other. Both of them have agreed that this is a FAZ matter and can only be resolved by a full executive committee of FAZ,” Mawere said.

In a press statement, FAZ said the two candidates Kalusha Bwalya and Andrew Kamanga will be required to undergo an integrity test processed by the Ethics Committee as guided by the current FAZ Constitution.

FAZ needs to back one candidate as they are bound by Article 18 (5) to nominate only one candidate. The position is held by Kalusha but comes to an end this year, with elections due this July. Kalusha who has been a CAF Executive Committee member since 2011 is seeking a third term but will need a recommendation letter from FAZ but however, the current FAZ President Andrew Kamanga has also made known his ambitions to stand for the same position.

The CAF Executive Committee Member of the South Zone (Cosafa Region) represents 14 member associations namely Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Kalusha who was first elected to the CAF Executive Committee in 2011 has been at CAF for eight years as he retained his position in 2015 after going unopposed.

  1. Marie Rose says:

Kamanga must be above board and allow a free discussion without fear to take place on Kalusha. Just be fair yes he has played a role previously but he still wants to serve. Let him be eliminated.
